Position Overview:
A large and fast-growing gastroenterology practice is seeking an experienced and driven Revenue Cycle Manager to oversee all aspects of the revenue cycle management (RCM) process. The candidate will play a critical role in ensuring efficient billing, collection, and financial reporting to optimize revenue flow for the practice. This role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to manage both people and processes while driving performance improvements and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. A degree in finance or accounting is required, and a CPA designation is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Revenue Cycle Operations: Oversee all phases of the revenue cycle, including patient registration, insurance verification, coding, charge capture, billing, claims submissions, payment posting, denial management, and collections.
- Financial Reporting: Develop and maintain key financial reports for revenue cycle performance, identifying trends and providing insights for improving revenue capture and minimizing losses.
- Process Improvement: Analyze revenue cycle processes and implement best practices to improve efficiency, reduce denials, and accelerate collections.
- Compliance & Regulation: Ensure compliance with healthcare billing regulations, payer contracts, and industry standards, including HIPAA and other legal requirements.
- Team Leadership: Manage and lead a team of billing, coding, and RCM staff, ensuring effective training, performance evaluations, and ongoing professional development.
- Patient Account Management: Oversee patient account activities, addressing patient billing inquiries, and ensuring patient-friendly financial practices are in place.
- Vendor & Payer Relations: Act as the primary liaison with insurance companies and third-party vendors, negotiating payer contracts, resolving escalated claims issues, and maintaining positive working relationships.
- KPIs & Metrics: Track and report on revenue cycle KPIs, such as days in accounts receivable (AR), claim denials, collection rates, and more. Use these metrics to set performance goals and make data-driven decisions.
- Technology Management: Oversee the use and optimization of billing software, electronic health records (EHR), and other relevant RCM technology. Coordinate with IT teams for system improvements and updates.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes by providing insights on revenue trends and collections performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in revenue cycle management within a healthcare setting, preferably in a gastroenterology or multi-specialty practice.
- Strong understanding of healthcare billing, coding (CPT, ICD-10), payer rules, and reimbursement methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage a team and interact with cross-functional departments.
- Proficient in billing software, EHR systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel for financial analysis).
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA certification or progress toward CPA is highly preferred but not required.
- Experience with gastroenterology practices or specialty medical groups.
- Knowledge of payer contracting and experience with value-based care models.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, 401(k) plan with employer match, and opportunities for continuing education.
