Overview:The Staff Accountant role is primarily focused on maintaining and recording the Company’s fixed assets in both the General Ledger and Fixed Asset System. Partners with various departments to ensure accurate invoicing and creation of fixed assets in adherence to company policy. Reviews IT Department forecast to actuals each month to ensure accuracy of reporting. In addition, this role assists in the development, maintenance and review of internal controls.
Responsibilities:- Acts as primary point of contact and owner of the SAGE fixed asset system.
- Serves as cross-departmental liaison to ensure proper invoice account coding, and tracks capital projects. Ensures compliance with capitalization policy, and adherence to processing deadlines.
- Performs asset capitalization, transfers, and disposals within SAGE and posts to the General Ledger.
- Prepares journal entries, account analysis and reporting, including all fixed asset schedules for quarterly reviews and year-end external financial audits.
- Works closely with internal departments, including Corporate Tax, and external agencies to provide fixed asset reporting when requested.
- Completes monthly, quarterly and yearly reconciliations in addition to providing reports to external and internal auditors, external accountants and various departments.
- Owns fixed assets process for Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements.
- Assists with non-merchandise inventory, year-end adjustments for real estate tax and common area maintenance accrual accounts and other responsibilities as requested.
- Performs other functions within the Retail Accounting team, as necessary.
Qualifications:- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel including the ability to work efficiently with large data sets.
- Must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work both effectively with others and independently.
- Experience working within an effective internal control environment.
- Strong attention to detail, prioritization and business need foresight.
- Experience in a fast-paced environment with the ability to reprioritize while meeting deadlines.
- Quick learner and problem solver when faced with new issues or challenges.
- Ability to build partnerships across the organization with excellent teamwork and communication skills to create efficiencies and a collaborative environment.
- Understanding of general ledger accounting, including accruals, and fixed asset principles with the desire to learn more complex fixed asset procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Sedentary work, prolonged periods of time working at a desk and on a computer.
- Ability to communicate information and observe details at close range.
- Light lifting may be required.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably with fixed asset experience.
