Our manufacturing client based in Concord, ON is seeking a Senior Accountant for a contract position to cover for a medical leave. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for leading the accounting operations for the team - leading the financial reporting cycle, overseeing key financial operations, including overseeing AP/AR/payroll and driving the month-end close process. This role will also provide essential support to the Director of Finance in budgeting, strategic analysis, and business reporting, making it a critical part of our finance team.
Financial Accounting & Oversight:
- Oversight of day-to-day accounting operations, including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll (1 AP Administrator & 1 AR Administrator).
- Prepare financial statements, cash flow projections, revenue forecasts and other management reports to communicate financial performance and trends to stakeholders.
- Lead the month-end close process, reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and provide variance analysis.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other consultants & providers facilitating audits, reviews, and tax filings as required.
Accounts Payable, Receivable, Payable Oversight:
- Supervise and review the work of the AP Clerk and AR Clerk to ensure efficient and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
- Ensure proper coding, matching of invoices, and internal controls compliance.
- Monitor receivables and payables to manage cash flow, following up on overdue accounts as needed.
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local regulations.
- Ensure payroll tax filings and employee benefit calculations are completed accurately.
Support for Director of Finance:
- Assist in preparing the annual budget, forecasting, and conducting strategic financial analysis.
- Provide ad-hoc reporting and business analysis to support key management initiatives.
- Review insurance policies and other financial contracts, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness.
Process Improvement & ERP Management:
- Identify and implement improvements in financial processes, focusing on accuracy and efficiency.
- (Optional) Experience with Epicor ERP is preferred, with the ability to optimize processes and develop custom reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification strongly preferred.
- Ideally 5+ years of progressive experience in a Finance or Accounting role, with experience ideally in a Manufacturing or related environment.
- Experience and strength in cost accounting highly valued, but not required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and experience with manufacturing ERP systems, experience with Epicor, highly valued.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Contract Length: This is a month-to-month, ongoing contract, with strong potential for it to go over 6 months, or even permanent for the right individual.
