About the Job
The Controller for JPI's Construction & Trades division is a key business partner, driving financial performance and supporting strategic growth. This role provides financial leadership to engineering and construction teams, offering insights that influence critical decisions and promote long-term profitability. As a key leader within the division, the Controller is responsible for managing financial outcomes, developing finance strategies, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Working closely with JPI's business leaders, the Controller evaluates financial data, assesses business alternatives, and recommends solutions to optimize performance. The role is instrumental in shaping the division's financial trajectory while ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Management and Leadership
Strategic Business Partnership: Serve as a trusted advisor to business operations, project management, and support teams, contributing to the achievement of both operational and financial goals.
Financial Leadership & Guidance: Provide proactive financial insights, assisting in the development of project budgets, forecasts, and key accounting decisions, ensuring alignment with the division's strategy.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Collaborate with Business Operations and FP&A teams to drive financial planning activities and ensure financial alignment with business objectives.
Cost Management & Supply Chain Collaboration: Partner with supply chain and procurement teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and drive initiatives that reduce expenses across projects. Monitor project budgets to minimize overruns and enhance profitability.
Financial Analysis, Reporting, and Compliance
Financial Analysis & Reporting: Analyze and present monthly financial results across all revenue segments and trades for executive-level reviews, identifying key trends and areas for improvement.
Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Ensure financial reporting complies with company policies and U.S. accounting standards. Prepare and deliver accurate financial performance reports, budgets, forecasts, and regulatory filings.
Internal Controls: Develop and implement internal control policies related to project forecasting, financial accounting, and cash management to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
Financial Monitoring: Oversee cash flow management, reserve levels, and ensure financial activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
Accounting Standards & Compliance: Stay updated on organizational policies, procedures, and current accounting standards, ensuring consistent compliance across the division.
Entity Formation & Compliance: Assist in evaluating and forming legal entities, conducting variable interest entity assessments, and overseeing venture funding and compliance requirements.
Operational Excellence and Team Management
Process Improvement: Identify and implement global standards and division-specific guidelines to improve financial control processes, driving efficiency and accuracy.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate tax, treasury, insurance, and accounting teams to ensure transparency and accuracy in financial reporting and disclosures.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead a team of project business service professionals responsible for contractual billings, cash management, collections, and financial reporting. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Project & Time Management: Manage complex projects with competing priorities, ensuring critical deadlines are met while maintaining quality standards.
Non-essential Functions & Responsibilities
Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification highly preferred.
Minimum 12 years of financial management or accounting experience, ideally in a matrixed manufacturing or construction environment.
Strong background in compliance, internal/external controls, customs, taxation, and risk reviews.
Experience in business partnership roles with P&L accountability and FP&A responsibilities.
Highly proficient in using technology to streamline and improve financial processes.
Expertise in ERP systems such as SAP, BUS, Workday.
CPA or CMA certification is highly desired.
