This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Risk Management Division of the County Counsel’s Office. The anticipated life of the employment list is six (6) months. Please submit an online application for consideration.
One current vacancy in the worker's compensation claims and disability management administration in the Risk Management Division. Assist the professional Risk Management staff with routine technical duties in the administration and maintenance of worker’s compensation and other insurance programs.
Position is located in Visalia.
Work Schedule for this position is Monday-Thursday: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm; Friday 8:00 am- 12:00 pm.
Salary Information
Level I: $4,119-$5,783 Monthly
Level II: $4,745-$5,783 Monthly
Perform claims examination and adjustment functions for the liability, malpractice or other insurance programs; receive, review and analyze routine claims and accident reports to determine the nature of the injury or claim; ascertain the validity of the claim through research; work with Risk Management Analyst and/or Risk Management Technician II to develop recommendations for corrective action or resolution; gather facts and data, interview witnesses, and write briefings, reports and memorandums; coordinate assignment and work of independent adjusters and third party administrator in investigating claims; adjust claims with guidance from the Risk Management Analysts, Risk Manager, attorneys, doctors, claims investigators, claimants; develop information and tentative conclusions to support recommendations to the Supervising Risk Management Analyst and/or Risk Manager for settlements of liability claims; assist management to establish reserves for claims using defined set of guidelines and industry standards; prepare routine documents pertaining to contractual or legal proceedings such as standard releases, waivers and agreements; coordinate routine interdepartmental administrative and communications functions such as scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, responding to departmental inquiries on less complex claims, composing and distributing letters, memorandum and other written materials; perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education: The equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized administrative or secretarial training or courses in public, business, insurance administration, workers' compensation or disability/leave management.
Experience: Three years (3) of progressively responsible experience adjusting or processing insurance claims, administrative support or secretarial work or two years (2) of experience performing insurance claims adjusting or processing, workers' disability/leave management, administrative support or secretarial work in a public agency. Level II: Two (2) years of experience of demonstrated increasingly responsible experience as a Risk Management Technician I OR four (4) years of experience in an equivalent position working with claims or insurance adjustment, workers' compensation, or disability/leave management.
Knowledge of: Methods and techniques of information gathering and interviewing, math sufficient to compute and verify claims, and functions, procedures, practices of a contemporary business environment.
Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment; gather information through interviews and research regarding the validity of claims; maintain accurate electronic and paper records and files; read, interpret and apply legal rules and regulations; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, claimants, professionals, and other agencies; work under stress of meeting deadlines.
License/Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
