Our client is seeking an Estate Manager who is an experienced professional with outstanding leadership skills. The Estate Manager will assume 360-degree responsibility for an expansive property just outside Boston, MA. The client prefers candidates with a hands-on, service mentality who have successfully overseen a variety of teams, projects, and vendors.
The primary focus is managing the upkeep and maintenance of the property and leading the established team.
The right candidate has an East Coast-focused knowledge of turf management and plants. If you are a Golf Course Superintendent, Landscape Architect, Facilities Manager for a university with significant grounds, or the Executive Director of a Botanical Garden, we want to connect with you. Some understanding of equestrian facilities is preferred but not required – a willingness to learn is more important.
Schedule: Generally, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with flexibility to work extended hours and weekends when needed. 24/7 availability is required.
Compensation:
- Base compensation of $175,000 - $200,000 offered, depending on experience.

Responsibilities/Duties
- Assume global responsibility for the maintenance and administration of the property including grounds, buildings, equestrian facilities, fine gardening, landscaping, trails, paddocks, and woodlands.
- Build the team and supervise general operations. Offer training and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Attend to and execute the principal’s vision for the property.
- Manage preventative maintenance on all property and equipment to maintain effectiveness.
- Maintain excellent vendor relationships and obtain multiple bids for larger projects.
- Create, design, and maintain regionally appropriate landscapes, plantings, meadows, pastures, equestrian trails, paths, and riding surfaces.
- Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of stabling barns, indoor riding arena, lunge rings, horse walkers, turn out fields, and riding rings.
- Use, maintain, and understand agricultural tractor implements, tractors, seeders, harrows, graders, etc.
- Demonstrate an understanding of agricultural practices in a manner that assures the safety of people and animals.
- Communicate effectively with the property and Family Office teams and provide reports and updates in a timely and concise manner.
- Ensure vendors and workers are accompanied at properties to assure security and privacy.
- Respond to Principal requests and property issues on an on-call basis 24/7.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Mature, detail-oriented, and an effective leader with strong problem-solving skills.
- 15-20 years in a similar role or related experience, including a general understanding of major construction trades.
- Experience managing successful projects on a country estate, golf course, or farm and operating tools and heavy machinery.
- The client values experience with agronomy, turf management, and forestry management.
- Fluency in MS Office Suite, MS Project, Asana, and experience writing reports.
- A current and valid driver’s license is required.
- Training in OSHA and first aid/CPR preferred.
- Long-term intent and outstanding, verifiable references.
