Overview:
Reporting to the VEIC Accounting Manager, the Senior Staff Accountant provides overall quality control and is responsible for a number of functions in direct support of the VEIC fiscal operations including the monthly accounting cycle, general ledger maintenance, documentation and internal controls implementation/management. Other areas of accountability include compliance with GAAP accounting standards and staying up to date on FASB positions and SOP’s (Statements of Position). The Senior Staff Accountant supports the Controller with external auditing staff coordination to facilitate information exchange and communication. Maintains documentation of accounting procedures, processes and policies, develops and produces various financial analyses while contributing to a mission-driven, creative, enjoyable and stimulating work environment.
Location:
This is a hybrid position, and the ideal candidate will be located in Winooski, VT.
Compensation:
At VEIC, we are committed to pay transparency. The starting pay range for this position will be between $80,000-$90,000 annually. Based on market data, pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and location. Please discuss your intended work location with the recruiter for more information. Responsibilities:
- Responsible for process oversight and execution of numerous core accounting functions.
- Performs VEIC monthly Indirect and Fringe cost allocations.
- Reviews monthly General Ledger control log, communicates progress and works with Finance Team members to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Maintain monthly close binder and ensure reconciliations are performed on a timely basis.
- Maintains VEIC Fixed Asset tracking system and prepares monthly entries.
- Responsible for Payroll ledger entries and overall processing compliance.
- Performance of Compliance testing as mandated by Internal Controls documentation.
- Performance of all Fringe Benefit accounting/reporting and audit activity.
- Responsible for all VEIC subsidiary accounting functions including daily transactional bookings, month end close and reporting, as well as external coordination and communication with subsidiary management.
- Supports legal team in corporate insurance renewals and exposure analyses and certificate of insurance documentation requests.
- Assumes responsibility for additional tasks in support of the overall functioning of VEIC’s accounting department:
- Assists the Controller with preparing Annual IRS Form 990 return.
- Supports Director of Accounting and Controller in the annual budgeting process.
- Prepares ongoing and ad hoc financial analysis and reports as needed.
- Assists Director of Accounting with ensuring proper compliance of Internal Controls, including:
- Documentation of internal control processes, procedures and testing.
- Maintenance of all department policy and procedures manuals.
- Performs reviews and assessments of internal control effectiveness as required.
- Provides support to the activities of VEIC and its subsidiaries, as necessary, to accomplish organizational goals and objectives. On an as needed basis, assists with other tasks and functions within VEIC’s Finance department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 5-7 years of experience required, C.P.A. preferred.
- Experience with a mid-range/sophisticated accounting software package.
- Strong desktop computing skills including extensive Windows XP or higher and Microsoft Office applications experience.
- Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and able to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service, particularly to internal customers.
