We are excited to hire an attorney to serve as Salesforce’s in-house legal expert to advance Salesforce’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) compliance readiness. This position will have a significant impact on existing and future ESG-related compliance systems to meet current global regulatory requirements and prepare for future requirements, such as the US SEC climate rules, EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, and California’s climate disclosure legislation, among others. This position will provide legal advice and counseling relating to Salesforce’s ESG compliance and disclosure through collaboration with numerous cross-functional internal stakeholders at HQ and globally.
This role will report to the SVP & Associate General Counsel, Corporate Legal & ERM. Our team adopts a hybrid work model with a minimum of three days a week in our breathtaking, collaborative offices and up to two flexible remote workdays a week.
Description Of Role
- Provide legal guidance and strategic advice to internal stakeholders on ESG compliance laws and regulations worldwide.
- Oversee the localization of corporate-level plans into localized plans required globally such as climate transition plans.
- Monitor and advise on legal developments, rules, and regulations concerning ESG laws, including but not limited to environmental and human rights laws and policies, SEC climate and ESG disclosure rules, the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, California climate and ESG regulations, the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, and other ad hoc compliance initiatives.
- Work with the ESG Controllership, ESG Strategy, and global subsidiary governance teams to draft necessary disclosures and ensure compliance with ESG laws.
- Facilitate internal governance body focused on human rights policies and due diligence.
- Identify potential risks from ESG laws and provide recommendations for mitigating them.
- Remain current on developments of ESG laws applicable to Salesforce.
- Ensure open and effective lines of communication and documentation relating to ESG laws at all levels of the organization.
- Direct or support risk assessments, audit activities, third-party due diligence, internal investigations, and remediation activities related to ESG laws as needed.
- Utilize Salesforce products and technology to enable compliance with statutory requirements of ESG laws.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- At least eight years law firm or in-house experience in legal compliance.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of legal requirements of various U.S. state and federal and international ESG laws.
- Experience with voluntary reporting frameworks such as SASB, GRI, TCFD, and CDP.
- Experience with U.S. securities laws, compliance and disclosure obligations.
- Highly responsive and service-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and manage workloads to meet deadlines in an exciting and fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
- Fantastic communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong writing, presentation, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to develop and implement cross-functional processes.
- Qualified to practice law in the U.S.

For Colorado-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $185,800 to $269,500.
For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $204,400 to $296,400.
