Job Description
Responsible for assisting with creation and review of combined and consolidated financial reports distributed to management and published in the monthly Management Report (Bluebook) and Quarterly Review Book. Coordinates the collection of financial information from U.S. and international subsidiary personnel and assists in researching issues, explaining variances, and ensuring reporting is in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Company policy.
Responsibilities
- Consolidated Close and Financial Reporting
- Assists in monthly close process and review of financial and statistical data received from global subsidiaries of Mary Kay Inc. and Mary Kay Holding Corporation.
- Prepares journal entries as needed.
- Communicates with various U.S. and international Finance teams to provide and clarify instructions and requirements for month end reporting.
- Reviews monthly and quarterly financial reports for accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP, Company policy, and complex financial reporting standards.
- Uses review reports in analysis to increase efficiency in review processes and ensure reports are complete and accurate. Prepares charts and reports for the monthly Bluebook, quarterly Quarterbook, and for management as requested.
- Assists in preparation of quarterly and year-end audit schedules, financial statements, and footnotes prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP and audited by external auditors at year end.
- Collects information for preparation of variance explanations for internal and U.S. GAAP reporting. Reviews and updates access to confidential financial data, systems, and reports based on appropriate approvals.
- Participates in project teams for updates and upgrades to financial reporting systems. Assists with development of test scripts and system testing and communicates issues for resolution.
- International Bonus Program Reporting
- Calculates and inputs data in Hyperion Financial Planning and HFM systems for FX adjustments, investment market adjustments, and others as needed.
- Maintains report layouts and makes updates as directed so models function as intended and result in accurate financial data.
- U.S. Government Census and Economic Surveys
- Assists in preparation and completion of government census and economic surveys.
- Obtains information from various personnel within the Company and maintains proper documentation to support data reported.
- Ensures data is submitted timely to avoid statutory penalties for non-compliance.
- Global Financial Procedures
- Elevates financial questions from international subsidiary and region office finance personnel.
- Assists with communication to subsidiary personnel concerning financial reporting procedures, Global Financial Procedures, and U.S. GAAP accounting standards.
- Daily Sales Reporting
- Monitors the Daily Sales reporting process in Tableau, including elevating data issues for resolution, running the month-end report process, and issuing instructions to new users.
- Continuous Improvement
- Continuously assesses internal processes and implements changes that enable greater process efficiency or enhanced reporting.
- This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.
Skills & Experience
Experience: 1+ years of accounting
Education: Bachelor/University Degree in Accounting
- Proficiency with Hyperion Planning and Hyperion Financial Management application a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Basic understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal controls, the preparation of journal entries, the accounting treatment of consolidation activity, and how to generate reports.
- Basic understanding of integrated ERP systems and the relationship of Finance data and processes to other areas in the Company. Ability to understand the implications of system errors on unit costs or financial statements.
- Technology: Utilizes digital tools to perform tasks at a high level of productivity. Experience with Tableau, PeopleSoft Financials, HFM, and JD Edwards is highly beneficial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially advanced Excel, is beneficial.
- Influence: Builds and maintains trusting relationships by actively listening to stakeholders and backing up opinions with facts, knowledge, and logic. Good verbal and written communication skills to interface with personnel at all levels both in the U.S. and internationally and with external auditors to provide support and for issue resolution.
- Storytelling with data: Organizes and structures communications in a way that is easily understandable to the audience.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be able to exercise extreme discretion in dealing with confidential information including financial and audit information.
