SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Staff Accountant will assume a key role in providing accounting analysis and support for the various properties owned and managed by Artisan. The position will collaborate closely with Artisan’s SVP of Accounting and Artisan’s 3rd party accounting company in maintaining accurate books and records of the various properties in Artisan’s portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, results-oriented professional to make a significant impact in a diverse, highly visible, and growing portfolio.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Review month-end bank reconciliations for Operating and Security Deposit accounts and follow up on open items regarding property deposits and withdrawals at the bank but not clearly defined in the Accounting Software.
- Reconcile bank statements for Reserve and other Partnership cash accounts and record journal entries for all activity during the month.
- Review monthly financial statements and work with property management, asset management, and third-party accounting to address any significant variances to budget and outside of revenue and expense trends. Calculate and complete accruals for expenses as needed.
- Maintain subsidiary schedules to track Prepaid Insurance and Accrued Real Estate taxes.
- Work with external auditors and tax preparers to provide supporting documentation of financial activity as requested.
- Work with SVP of Accounting to maintain accurate Balance Sheet balances for all properties.
- Additional special projects as assigned to improve Internal Accounting process for Artisan.
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT
- Candidate is required to hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA desirable.
- 2+ years of experience as an accountant in the multifamily industry is preferred.
- Experience in AppFolio software is desirable, Proficiency in Excel and software-based accounting systems is required.
- Candidates should be results-oriented and work with a high level of integrity and dependability.

Type: Full-time
Work Location: Chicago, IL or possibly Des Moines, Iowa
- Regular in-person office hours expected
- Monday through Friday, with ability to work remotely each Friday.
Reports To: SVP of Accounting
Compensation: $60,000 to $75,000
- Bonus: up to 10% of salary, paid annually
