General Plastics is looking for an Accounting Specialist to join our growing team. As the Accounting Specialist, you will be working with our Controller on a day-to-day basis. You will be responsible for assisting our accounting department with accounts payable, account reconciliations, and month-end closing. The Accounting Specialist is outgoing and comfortable interacting with our internal and external customers and suppliers. This position will perform general accounting duties following prescribed procedures and accounting practices. You will also assist the Human Resources department and the President with projects as needed. This position will allow you to grow and gain more responsibility within the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain account payables system; review and verify all invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents; and resolve discrepancies.
- Pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, scheduling and preparing checks, and resolving invoice or payment discrepancies.
- Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions and correspond to vendor inquiries regarding invoices.
- Maintain Account Reconciliations. Maintain accurate records, including ledgers, journals, receipts, and invoices.
- Process various accounting-related reports required by management or government agencies.
- Assist with other accounting functions such as taxes, and monthly and yearly financial reports.
- File and maintain clerical records and reports.
- Get and distribute company mail.
- Perform other clerical duties, as necessary. These may include making copies, assisting with the postage meter, and shredding files.
- Process the weekly payroll for the company.
- Assist the Controller with any projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Requires general knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Up to 3 months of general office experience preferred.
- Experience using an ERP system, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
Physical and Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, usually waist high, up to 50 feet away. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
