Incorporated in 1982, Nourish Pierce County (formerly FISH Food Banks of Pierce County) mission is to provide nutritious food and support service referrals to people in need with compassion, dignity, and respect.
Nourish serves more than 30,000 individuals each month at 21 different locations, including 6 brick and mortar food banks, and 15 locations served by our award-winning Mobile Food Banks. With the assistance of more than 1,000 volunteers, our goal is to provide each person or family with enough food to make three nutritious meals a day for three days. All Nourish Food Banks operate on a self-serve model, allowing clients to select the foods that best meet their family’s needs. Clients are asked to limit their visits to once a week, but no one in need is turned away.

Position Title: Accounting Specialist
Reports to: Finance Director
Status: Full Time – Exempt
Salary Range: $72,800 - $83,200 annually

Purpose and General Description of Responsibilities
The Accounting Specialist performs general accounting duties, managing all aspects of daily bookkeeping and accounting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Duties
- Maintains overall accounting system ensuring compliance with GAAP; Including but not limited to A/P, A/R, and payroll systems.
- Prepares journal entries as needed.
- Performs bank and other reconciliations as needed.
- Process and pay invoices in a timely manner.
- Execute and maintain payroll system ensuring timely processing and documentation of adequate records.
- In coordination with Nourish development staff reconcile gifts and donations monthly.
- Prepare invoices for contracts with government agencies and partner organizations.
- Perform annual 1099 reporting for vendors.
- Support development staff, as needed, in developing grant proposal budgets.
- Process and track food orders for the food banks and warehouse.
- Guide in food bank operations and inventory processes.
- Receipts; perform periodic “in house” audit of in-kind receipts; guide food banks on proper procedures for recording and reporting.
- Perform month end closing procedures.
- Perform year end closing including any scheduling or reconciliations of accounts.
- Manage process to ensure proper employee hours billable to grants.
- Maintain record retention schedule ensuring compliance with Nourish policy.
- Support the Director of Finance and Auditors in preparation of year-end audit.
- Perform other accounting tasks as assigned by the Finance Director.
Other Duties As Assigned
Nourish Pierce County employees may be assigned tasks and duties outside of their ordinary responsibilities and are expected to comply with requests to perform other duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated computer and mobile phone literacy required, including text messaging; ability to make and receive telephone calls; ability to use the Internet to search and obtain information; sending and receiving email via browser or MS Outlook, using MS Teams.
- Must provide accurate and timely written or verbal information when requested by phone, over email, or as part of regular reporting requirements.
- Must be able to communicate detailed information clearly in person, in writing, by phone, and by email.
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
Position Specific Competencies
- Good working knowledge of MS Office products, including Excel, Word.
- Good understanding and experience with accounting systems, especially Quickbooks.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work independently.
- Some weekend and evening work may be required.
- Must be able to sit or stand for 8 hours per day.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
- BA in Accounting or related field
- Five years of non-profit accounting experience
- Ability to successfully pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check
