Position Overview
The Business Analyst is responsible for delivering analysis of data and providing analytical support to multiple functions in the SMP organization. This position is responsible for assembling data, analyzing performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and developing data driven recommendations that supports all SMP functions. This individual will work on a variety of projects with multiple stakeholders, completing complex analysis involving multiple data sources, assessing opportunities for process improvement, developing innovative use for existing data, developing plans for capturing and utilizing supplemental data, and supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses knowledge of the dairy industry, development and use of key performance indicators (KPIs), and demonstrates an ability to identify underlying causes and correlations. The candidate must exhibit exceptional analytic problem-solving abilities, strong attention to detail, as well as strong communication and presentation skills that enable them to lead discussions to drive data-based decisions to be made.
Primary Responsibilities
- Have the intellectual curiosity to actively seek out new areas of potential improvement and drill into the details to find the root cause of problems. This requires a willingness to question assumptions and an internal drive for continuous improvement.
- Be driven to always learn new skills and modeling techniques to better predict and explain the drivers and outcomes of critical operational and financial decisions.
- Develop statistical models for predicting future operational results, costs, and key performance metrics.
- Consolidate, prepare, and analyze financial and operational data to understand cause-and-effect relationships and identify root causes.
- Assist in preparing and presenting analytical results, operational data, and forecasts in written and verbal formats to senior leadership.
- Take ownership of the data and work to ensure that data is as complete and accurate as possible. This requires working with Operations, Accounting, HR, etc., to understand the business processes behind the data and with IT to understand how the data is processed and stored.
- Use independent judgment to analyze data and make recommendations for changes to support significant business initiatives.
- Identify key areas for process improvement through data analysis and strategic thinking.
- Perform a comprehensive review of the reporting packages and document detailed explanations for significant variances.
- Create process documentation and process flows for current and new processes.

- Apply diverse experience across functions and basic understanding of continuous improvement tools and processes to drive business results.
- Utilize experience with SAP / ERP systems to access and analyze data.
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Statistics or Mathematics required
- 3-5 years’ experience in an analytical role is required, ideally in a food manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of company functions and the effects of data changes on those departments.
- Thorough understanding of SQL methods to query various size data sets.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and SSRS.
- Knowledge of statistical tools such as R or Data Analysis in Excel.
Minimum Requirements
- Must successfully complete a background check.
- Must have proof of legal authorization to work in USA.

- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and demonstrate manual dexterity while performing job duties.
