Job Responsibilities:
Position Summary: Performs advanced and complex accounting duties that require thorough knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, concepts and requirements that impact the operations and management of the agency.
Essential Functions:
- Performs technical accounting and financial analyses of moderate difficulty and complexity to provide accurate and timely financial reports to management to support sound decision making and ensure the fiscal integrity of agency programs.
- Prepares requisitions, billings and periodic reports to funding sources.
- Maintains the general ledger by preparing journal entries for month-end close, performing variance analysis, identifying discrepancies, conducting research and conferring with agency leadership and funding source representatives to resolve issues.
- Reconciles various balance sheet accounts as assigned.
- Prepares various financial analyses and reports.
- Assists with the preparation of the annual financial statement audit by maintaining supporting schedules and analyses.
- Works with Development and agency leadership in the preparation of budgets for proposals, as well as other budget requests from funding sources.
- Participates in the preparation and maintenance of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Contributes to the development of new or amended accounting systems, processes and procedures.
- Serves as backup to various functions in the Accounting Department on as needed basis.
- Assists with special projects assigned by the Controller and the Chief Financial Officer.
Job Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Non-profit and grant accounting experience preferred, and advanced skills in working with Excel spreadsheets and accounting software. Must possess the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner.
Minimal Qualifications and Salary Schedule: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and at least five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

Work Relationship and Scope: Reports directly to the Controller. Has contact with funding sources, employees, supervisors, program directors and executive management. Must be able to work both independently and from a team approach.

Working Conditions: Required to enter data into computer, and the work is performed while sitting for extended periods of time with the ability to move about at will.
Physical Demands: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle objects and controls. Must possess hand and finger dexterity. Handling files and documents may require reaching with hands and arms. Could have a requirement to stoop, kneel or crouch and to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
