Summary
Performs and coordinates the detailed accounting and reporting functions for communities, programs, endowments/advancement, and debt as assigned; exercises independent and objective judgment while following established accounting principles and procedures when performing the designated duties that may be complex in nature.
Responsibilities
- Prepares required monthly journal entries timely and accurately; monitors deadlines and due dates.
- Prepares reconciliations of key general ledger accounts monthly and for the year-end audit.
- Maintains the accuracy of accounting information, including the Trial Balance for communities assigned.
- Analyzes variances between month and year to date budget versus actual results.
- Coordinates input from Home Office/Communities/Programs to enhance and improve analysis; develops pro-active relationships with internal customers.
- Performs an active role in the annual capital and operating budget preparation process for communities/programs, foundations/advancement, and debt as assigned.
- Reconciles, researches, and resolves discrepancies in general ledger account activity; performs analyses as needed.
- Assists in annual preparation of cost reports and Form 990 reporting.
- Assists in gathering information for preparation of annual Cost Reports.
- Supports accounting team goals to help promote overall team success.
- Performs accounting duties for community or entity assigned; processes entries and reconciles accounts related to community and entity.
- Mentors and trains new accountants.
- Assumes other accounting related special activities, projects, and analysis as needed to support the Accounting Department.
- Performs an active role in improving and streamlining processes in the accounting department to improve productivity and efficiency, eliminating redundancy; demonstrates a flexible attitude towards ongoing process improvements and financial system enhancements.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- 5+ years general accounting experience with an ability to handle complex functions; experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and standardized accounting principles.
- Ability to perform a volume of numerical detail work with speed and accuracy and to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain systematic and legible reports and demonstrate accuracy in work assignments. Attention to detail required.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to process routine daily functions and balance multiple projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products specifically with the use and knowledge of Excel for Accounting functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit for extended periods of time and will have extended periods of computer use. A well-lighted and ventilated working area that has its own temperature controls system (air conditioning and heat). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Willingness to work extra hours when required. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Will be required to travel to LSS communities and may require moderate overnight stays.
