A day in the life
The Financial Planning Analyst develops, analyzes, and maintains budgets, forecasts, and reports, including portfolio budgets, staffing capacity, asset projections, and annual operating budgets. This role meets with divisional management to provide financial insight and assists in the development of staffing and operating expense forecasts and budgets. The Financial Planning Analyst analyzes financial data, identifying and researching variances and potential areas of concern, as well as presenting the results to various levels of leadership.
Your responsibilities will include
- Analyzes monthly budget reporting, researches variances and unbudgeted payments, and follows up with and provides guidance to staff regarding budget implications.
- Provides coding information for general questions, contracts, and procurement renewals.
- Processes invoices to be paid by accounts payable.
- Serves as resource for internal customers for questions on new projects, budget, forecasts, and monthly financial variances.
- Prepares financial and staffing forecasts for divisional leaders. Initiates and facilitates meetings regularly with various levels of management within the organization.
- Reviews discrepancies between forecasts and actual costs incurred and prepares monthly spreadsheets and presentations about past and current budget statuses in conjunction with forecasting updates and new variances found.
- Analyzes financial information and investigates anomalies and variances to identify potential areas of concern. Recognizes expense trends and provides insight to appropriate stakeholders.
- Collaborates with leadership to provide financial guidance, education, and technical assistance with cost analysis, resource allocation, and budget preparation.
- Prepares monthly budget analysis and metrics reporting for leadership review.
- Supports the overall budget process through detailed budget development, consultation with business leaders, and cost analysis.
- Prepares and reviews budget reporting and serves as a resource for management. Determines budget impact for new projects or purchases.
What you need to succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience with accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, or related experience is required.
- Ability to analyze problems and communicate proposed solutions.
- Pays close attention to the details of all work and strives for a high level of accuracy.
- Manages time effectively and consistently maintains a high level of productivity.
- Collaborates with other parties to accomplish goals.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations to small or large groups.
Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards.
