DIRECTOR, INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING
At SpaceX, we are leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 3M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact and are looking for a leader to help define and scale accounting, reporting, and statutory compliance activities to support growth around the globe.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the buildout of automated and manual controls and systems that will be used to record transactions across international entities as well as timely close the local accounting books of international entities.
- Responsible for setting standard accounting close processes for international entities.
- Prepare and/or review monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux analysis with the ability to set best practice standards that can be repeated monthly for all international entities.
- Partner with tax and treasury team to record transfer pricing and reconcile intercompany balances and the elimination of intercompany profit on the consolidated US books.
- Partner with accounting leaders to ensure revenue and inventory transactions are recorded and reviewed on local books under US GAAP.
- Establish intercompany elimination and multi-level consolidation rules, and record monthly consolidation and intercompany elimination entries.
- Partner with accounts payable and treasury to ensure vendor invoices are recorded and paid on the correct entities’ local books.
- Lead the relationship with the local service providers to review and coordinate international statutory filings, including bridging statutory financial and tax books to U.S. GAAP, working closely with other international accounting employees.
- Collaborate with tax team and local service providers to meet international regulatory and tax compliance needs, including VAT/GST.
- Develop global accounting policies and procedures to satisfy US and foreign compliance requirements.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and drive solutions across SpaceX.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- 8+ years of accounting experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a supervisory, lead, or management role.
- Experience with international accounting and consolidation.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- MBA.
- High energy, “run it like you own it” mentality with the ability to thrive in a high-paced, ever-changing environment.
- Deadline focused and loves being in the office working face-to-face with teams.
- Ability to liaise with other leaders in finance and operations in a constructive, solution-oriented manner.
- Significant exposure to and understanding of intercompany transactions, consolidations, foreign currency translation, and businesses with high volume, small dollar transactions using credit card processors.
- High level understanding of US GAAP; medium understanding of IFRS.
- Certified Public Accountant with Big 4 experience.
- Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with MS Dynamics 365 or other ERP accounting systems.
- Proficient computer skills, particularly with Excel.
- Ability to analyze a high volume of transactions for revenue, inventory, VAT, and accounts payable.
- Ability to inspire, mentor, and teach.
- Familiarity with SQL.
- Ability to manage relationships with external auditors to ensure deadlines are being met.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
- This position is based in Hawthorne, CA (Los Angeles area), and requires being onsite full-time – hybrid and remote work will not be considered.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Director, International Accounting: $185,000 – $230,000/per year.
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
