NATURE AND SCOPE
The Manager, Accounting reports to the VP, Controller and assists in the oversight and completion of the department’s daily accounting activities including general ledger entries, balancing and reconciliations. This role is responsible for developing and automating department reporting and oversees the investor reporting function. The Manager, Accounting leads a team of Staff Accountants and is responsible for fostering a collaborative team environment.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of five years relevant accounting experience and a minimum of two years of experience managing people.
2. Previous accounting experience in a financial institution is preferred.
3. CPA license is a plus.
4. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to independently and collaboratively problem solve.
5. Strong communication skills and experience building a collaborative environment within an accounting team and across other internal departments.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting internal controls and confidentiality standards.
7. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Power Point, Teams) and have a strong knowledge of Excel and experience working in accounting systems.
8. Must develop a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures as they relate to this position. Must understand and comply with all job-related State and Federal laws and regulations.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Oversees daily accounting activities including general ledger entries, balancing and reconciliations to ensure adherence to established controls and monthly close timelines.
2. Manages the Staff Accountant team, creating a collaborative team environment.
3. Prepares, reviews and approves monthly journal entries.
4. Prepares complex account reconciliations by analyzing the source of transactions and effect on accounting systems; and ensures appropriate accounting treatment.
5. Develops transaction and system reports to provide detail for reconciliation daily work and preparation to create improved controls, efficiencies and effectiveness of the reconciliation process.
6. Reviews and approves account reconciliations and subsidiary controls prepared by staff and assists with the training and improvement of account reconciliation process.
7. Develops extensive knowledge of source system to assist in processing and reconciliation of financial activity. Collaborates with other departments to understand and reconcile activity to general ledger.
8. Manages investor reporting including accuracy of reporting, meeting deadlines, balancing of investor activity and completion of external audits.
9. Assists in timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
10. Assists in the continuous review, development, and documentation of controls.
11. Assists in process improvement efforts to strengthen department’s operational effectiveness.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
