1898 & Co.’s Business Lines facilitate a strategic approach to selling services, developing staff, and maintaining client relationships. A Business Line Manager’s primary responsibility is to set the near-term and long-term vision for achieving these goals within their Business Line that supports the growth of the Energy & Utility Consulting Practice and 1898 & Co. The Business Line Manager displays grit in their leadership role and the work they deliver. They are confident and willing to take it to the next level.
The OGCC Asset Advisory Business Line Manager will direct service offerings and business provided by 1898 & Co. We support a broad range of studies, engineering, and other techno-economic consulting services to support the development, analysis, design, and construction of downstream projects, such as process studies, margin improvement road maps, site selection, development, pre/feasibility studies, and independent engineering assessments. The Business Line Manager will provide technical and business leadership to the team supporting our downstream consulting services.
The Business Line Manager will be required to work with numerous entities in the industry, from investor-owned refineries, merchant refineries, fully integrated refiners, and national oil companies. They are a seller-doer, conducting sales and marketing activities and executing projects. The Business Line Manager will directly engage with clients to identify new work, prepare proposals, establish project objectives, formulate project approaches, and oversee a team of consultants/engineers to meet the project objectives and provide clients with valuable and actionable deliverables.
What You’ll Do

As a Business Line Manager, you will be responsible for and manage all aspects of OGCC Asset Advisory service offerings, including business planning, business development, project execution, and team leadership. You’re a tenacious problem solver and energized by new, untried, and significant challenges. You leverage the latest tools, technologies, and best practices to create action and traction in the face of ambiguity. Key responsibilities will include:
- You’ll create, develop, manage, and communicate the strategic direction of the Business Line.
- You’ll set financial targets for the Business Line, such as sales, revenue, profitability, and chargeability, as well as budgets for overhead expenses, such as marketing trips, conferences, software, certifications, etc.
- You’ll prepare and manage a business plan for the strategic growth of the Business Line, including expansion of current and new service offerings, marketing activities, client retention and acquisition, and staff growth plan.
- You’re at the forefront of business development and sales.
- You’ll coordinate with business development managers to identify opportunities and propose services to key clients.
- You’ll create new and manage existing client relationships through client marketing and project interactions and identify new sales opportunities.
- You’ll establish critical project objectives and performances with clients and lead contract preparation and negotiations.
- You’ll facilitate timely, quality, and profitable execution of projects within the Business Line and serve as project Manager and quality control leader for deliverables.
- You’ll analyze and communicate project status, risks, schedule, and costs to all internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in engineering or related field from an accredited program. Advanced degree is a plus such as an MBA or Engineering Management.
- Minimum 7 years of related experience with a broad and deep understanding of downstream market, including 3 or more years managing engineering projects (10 years of overall professional experience is preferred).
- Deep and broad base of knowledge of refining, specifically regarding the development, design, and construction of plants and their operation.
- Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of engineers and analysts in regard to development and execution.
- Proven ability to lead multi-discipline teams of engineers and analysts.
- General business and financial calculation knowledge.
- Effective project management skills.
- Ability to work with existing and new clients to identify new projects, articulate to the clients our ability to perform those projects, and translate that into the sale of consulting services.
- Ability to communicate with various business contacts to understand their needs and translate them into a scope of work that meets their desired outcomes.
- Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.
- Ability to focus on the big picture to effectively and efficiently provide services that meet client needs, while also having the ability to identify and analyze details that are critical to project outcomes.
- Willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and the market requires changes to the service offerings provided by our group.
- Willingness and ability to develop a broad set of service offering types to allow for flexibility to go where the work is.
- Willingness to cross-sell other services offered by Burns & McDonnell outside the project manager’s core set of services.
- Willingness to negotiate with clients for new service agreements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

- Professional Registration preferred.
