Creating the best communities means employing the best people – and taking exceptionally good care of those people. Related Management Company (RMC) seeks a Human Resources Business Partner who will serve as a resource and strategic partner to employees and staff within RMC.
The HRBP will have primary responsibility in managing employee relations matters and performance management for approximately 700 property management employees across the country, including luxury and market-rate asset classes as well as our support teams. In addition, you’ll ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures across RMC. In this role, you’ll operate as a critical part of our business, helping develop and retain our greatest asset – our people. The HRBP will work in concert with the business and rest of the Human Resources team to execute and advance RMC’s people strategy, supporting the company’s business priorities, while reducing employee turnover and improving productivity. Successful candidates will be passionate about supporting field-based teams. This role will be based in our Midtown Manhattan or Dallas office and will report into RMC’s HR Manager.
We’ll trust you to:
Employee Relations
- Acts as first point of contact for property management teams on HR issues; provides sound guidance and advice; escalates issues as necessary
- Coach and counsel managers and employees on all employee issues; identify and clarify problems, evaluate potential solutions and recommend course of action
- Mediate and resolve employee relations issues; conduct investigations and recommend resolutions
- Navigate sensitive and confidential issues with the highest levels of discretion, leverage Corporate HR legal resources to minimize risk in changing legal environment
- Proactively address performance concerns with urgency, using corrective action as needed
- For union populations, prepare all necessary paperwork in compliance with the union progressive discipline policies including written warnings, performance improvement plans and separation letters
- Guide managers through performance management and preparation of performance improvement plans for non-union populations
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
- Analyze data and trends and partner with RMC’s HR team to make recommendations that can improve retention, internal mobility and performance management
- Represent RMC in union grievances and arbitrations and ensure compliance with existing CBA’s
- Communicate with RMC’s Recruiting Team for any talent planning needs or imminent job openings
Talent Development & Management
- Partner with leadership on people strategy implementation, succession planning, and career growth opportunities for employees
- Proactively address performance concerns with urgency, using corrective action as needed
- Understand RMC’s business priorities and adjust strategic direction as needed for achievement
- Direct and engage in counseling managers and employees as part of their career development and talent management plans
- Support annual review process for all employees in conjunction with Corporate HR
Compensation, Benefits, and Data Management
- Support annual compensation planning exercise in alignment with RMC’s pay-for-performance strategy
- Partner with Corporate HR compensation team to conduct bi-annual and/or as needed market pay analysis
- Provide guidance on benefits and leave matters to employees, in conjunction with Corporate Benefits team
- Partner with the Corporate Benefits team to keep track of employees’ leave and accommodation claims and send documentation, including leave letters as necessary
- Ensure employee data is accurate, effective, and standardized; partner with Corporate HRIS team as needed
Compensation:
$85,000- $100,000 + Discretionary Bonus

Qualifications
You’ll need to have:
- At least 3-5 years of relevant HR experience, particularly in employee relations
- Bachelor’s degree required ideally in HR or related field
- Demonstrated experience working with geographically dispersed field-based teams
- Discretion, professionalism, and candor with excellent judgment and intuitive interpersonal skills
- Superior communication skills:
- Strong verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills
- Ease in working with people up and down the organization hierarchy
- Naturally adaptive to different audiences
- Diplomatically assertive
- Union knowledge preferred, experience participating in grievance and arbitration hearings, and feel comfortable with union processes and procedures from a HR perspective
- Familiarity with state-specific laws on payroll, leave, wages, and hours, specifically in NY, CA, TX, FL, GA, IL, MA, and DC.
Working Conditions:
This role will be based in office in either Midtown Manhattan or Dallas, Texas. At the needs of the business, periodic travel to sites within your assigned portfolio will be required. Off-hours emergencies may arise and require the HRBP’s immediate attention.
