State Consultant, Environmental Health, Vital Strategies India Services Private Limited, is a private limited company focused on strengthening and revitalizing public health systems through design and supporting scalable solutions to leading causes of death, disease, and injury.
Vital Strategies provides technical assistance, consultation, as well as project management, design and evaluation to a wide range of private and public sector clients, in order to further its mission to improve and save lives, including through non-communicable disease prevention, environmental health and urban health, with specific areas of focus in tobacco control, data for health, road safety and air quality.
Vital Strategies is excited to be part of a new consortium led by Council for Energy, Environment and Water, formed to strengthen air pollution mitigation and exposure reduction systems, contributing to a cleaner environment and healthier population.
Vital Strategies will lead on health-related activities within this transdisciplinary initiative.
Vital Strategies is seeking qualified candidates for the position of State Consultant – Environmental Health for the states of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh.
S/he will closely work with State focal points for environmental health and actively collaborate with the state team/city team of air quality and health stakeholders and experts, including environmental health scientists, epidemiologists, air quality advocates, public health practitioners, and communications specialists.
S/he may be embedded in the Environmental division of the State Public Health Directorate or similar to help coordinate and advance the clean air agenda to promote public health.
Duties and Responsibilities
The State Consultant will:

Coordinate with the National consultant, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and support the State focal point in the Environmental health division of Public Health Directorate in formulating training modules for District nodal officers and Hospital nodal officers at Sentinel surveillance sites, providing technical support to enable implementation of training in the respective states.

Work with the State focal point for Environmental Health to support health awareness, conduct local health sector assessment of perceptions and needs in coordination with the National consultant.

Facilitate a study on the perception of air quality and its impacts among frontline health workers, e.g. ASHA workers.

Coordinate with district/block level health staff to raise awareness on Air Quality (AQ) and impact on health.

Support the environmental health team in framing recommendations from the perceptions study, and support NCDC in strengthening existing AQ and health training modules for clinicians, nurses, and ASHAs.

Provide technical assistance to state and local health department in gathering data on AQ impact on health, support integration into dashboards and facilitate training of district nodal officers.

Participate in meetings with the State pollution control board, Municipal corporation, tertiary care hospitals (public and private) as and when required.

Support conceptualization, convening, and/or implementation of state-level stakeholder workshops, trainings, and awareness generation activities in concurrence with Vital Strategies Program manager and National Consultant.

Assist with other Vital Strategies duties and requests as specified by supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Education and Degree: Master’s degree in public health/related discipline with relevant experience of working closely with government partners in public health implementation programmes.
Skills & Abilities: Demonstrated experience with training and capacity building at state and/or district levels.
