Salary range: $95,487.00 - $138,456.00; ranges are based on years of experience.
Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting technical consulting of laboratory operations, CAP proficiency testing and accreditation oversight, audits and inspections to ensure inspection readiness, sales-marketing initiatives for hospital clients, and safety reviews to ensure regulatory compliance. This work can be performed in conjunction with the laboratory medical directors (LMD) or independently depending on the requests of Incyte Diagnostics' clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technical Consulting - responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the contracted laboratory.
- The technical consultant must be available to the laboratory as needed for telephone, electronic and on-site consultation.
- Individuals meeting the qualifications of a technical consultant may assess the competency of personnel performing moderate complexity testing, if this duty is delegated, in writing, by the laboratory director. Other responsibilities include:
- Establishment or verification of laboratory test performance specifications.
- Selection of test methodology.
- Enrollment and participation in proficiency testing.
- Establishment of quality control program to monitor ongoing test performance.
- Resolution of technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken.
- Ensuring that patient results are not reported until corrective actions are taken, and test systems are functioning properly.
- Identification of training needs.
- Support with procedure and policy development.
- Audits/Inspections - Assure contracted laboratories and those within the enterprise remain inspection-ready by inspecting processes and practices at each location by scheduling audits with trained audit teams.
- Monitor compliance and report nonconformities to operations.
- Evaluate process improvements for effectiveness.
- On-site inspection support and assistance to prepare responses to deficiencies, if any.
- CAP Proficiency Testing/Accreditation - Maintain and monitor enterprise-wide proficiency testing program and assist in preparing responses for proficiency testing failures, if any.
- Process reaccreditation applications for all CAP inspected sites.
- Provide additional paperwork to CAP or the State Department of Health for changes in information and updates on activity menus and volumes.
- Assures laboratories within the corporation maintain current federal, state and local licensure and accreditation as applicable.
- Maintains knowledge of federal, state and local requirements of certifying and accrediting agencies by reviewing regulations publications and other resources necessary to remain current.
- Maintains sensitivity to the operating requirements of the Pathology and Laboratory Service Lines to meet patient care service standards.
- Sales-Marketing Duties - Act as a Clinical liaison between sales-marketing and clinical and hospital staff.
- Assist in identifying clinical quality improvement projects to be supported by the LMD.
- Understand and improve relationships and processes that impact Incyte within contracted hospitals and hospital-owned clinics. Work with management to align Incyte services with the strategic objectives of the hospital.
- Assist with problem resolution for hospitals and hospital-owned clinics.
- Assist with the development and integration of new technology as it pertains to sales/marketing and client retention.
- Represent Incyte in a professional manner at conferences and sponsorship events as needed.
- Contribute information and insight as necessary at select Incyte Diagnostics meetings.
- Assist with territory analysis, strategic planning, and long-term development initiatives as it pertains to hospitals.
- LMD (Laboratory Medical Director) Support - Serve as a liaison and support of the LMD when required.
- Assist Incyte LMDs in understanding clinical laboratory operations, troubleshooting issues, and providing guidance in maintaining the clinical quality of the laboratories they serve.
- Assist in inspection preparation and be onsite for inspections as available.
- Perform inspection audits as requested by pathologists.
- Report performance concerns to internal leadership.
- Safety
- Compliance support with State Dept. of Ecology, WISHA, CAP, Fire Marshall and OSHA.
- Oversight of liquid and solid hazardous waste programs.
- Maintain compliance of on-site safety requirements.
- On-site Safety Chair.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in laboratory science or medical technology.
- Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a laboratory science or medical technology preferred.
- ASCP or CLS (NCA) certification in one of the clinical laboratory scientist disciplines is highly desirable.
- Formal Training in the Toyota Production System (LEAN), or Six Sigma Black belt status (ASQ), or Quality Engineering (ASQ) preferred.
- Training or knowledge of ISO15189 standards preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- 6+ years' experience, including 1 year with demonstrated quality process management in a complex healthcare laboratory.
- Demonstrated competency with personal computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software required.
- Experience teaching and presenting required.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with hospital executives, physicians, laboratory personnel, and medical vendors.
