A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Scientific Advisor with a strong technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, software, or physics to join the Electrical and Computer Technologies group in Boston. The ideal candidate will support the firm's complex Intellectual Property (IP) needs, working collaboratively with attorneys and other team members. This role involves preparing patent applications, drafting formal requests to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and conducting technical research to assess the patentability of new inventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply technical expertise to support the firm's and its clients' complex IP needs.
- Prepare patent applications and draft formal requests to the USPTO for patent grants.
- Review technical disclosures to determine patentability and viability of new inventions.
- Participate in client and inventor interviews to understand the complexities of new inventions.
- Conduct research in patent databases and non-patent literature to gather necessary information for legal assessment.
- Draft patent applications describing new inventions and support the application process with the USPTO.
- Assist firm practitioners in developing and drafting arguments in response to USPTO communications to secure patents.
- Collaborate with attorneys and other team members to provide high-quality legal services.
- Maintain regular communication with clients and inventors to keep them informed about the status of their patent applications.
- Ensure compliance with all firm policies and practices.
- Perform other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field of study.
- 2+ years of applicable industry experience in an engineering or related capacity.
- Strong technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, software, or physics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to present findings in a professional and organized manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work requests.
- Sound judgment, maturity, and ability to work with all levels within the firm's organization.
