A Day in the Life of a Senior Surgical Technologist:
Works under the supervision of Surgical Services Leadership. Assists surgical team before, during, and after surgery. Works under the direction of an RN.

Here Is What You Will Be Doing:
- Identifies and selects the instruments and equipment necessary for surgical procedures.
- Scrubs all minor and major cases independently, excluding specialty team cases.
- Anticipates surgeon’s needs to expedite the procedure thereby minimizing the patient’s exposure to trauma.
- Works under the direct supervision of the RN first circulator when required.
- Second circulates on cases that require two circulators.
- Assists the RN with patient positioning and prep.
- Collaborates with and assists the professional staff as needed. Assists the service coordinators, charge nurses, supervisor, and director in identifying department needs.
- Assists with room turnover, cleaning, and restocking.
- Maintains strict aseptic technique, properly maintains sterile instruments, and adheres to proper sterilization techniques.
- Supports staffing needs of department by working flexible hours, on call, and overtime as needed.
DEPARTMENT/ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
SURGICAL TECH STUDENT ADVISOR: Orients students to facility. Confirms that all necessary paperwork and lab studies required by the hospital and school are completed prior to starting any clinicals at the hospital. Makes assignments for all students, based on what clinical experiences are needed most for the individual student(s), and which preceptor will do the best job with the student. Observes students working with preceptors and gives feedback to both student and preceptor. Keeps in constant contact with all preceptors and staff to monitor student progress and see what skills or behaviors need reinforcement. Maintains active correspondence with instructors and adjunct staff of surgical technology programs regarding student(s) performance, attendance, attitude, and behavior. Attends Advisory Council meetings at LCCC biannually. Attends extracurricular LCCC Surgical Technology activities. Collects unused surgical supplies for Surgical Technology and Nursing Programs.

- Second circulation skills, verified by Service Coordinator.

- Knowledge of supplies, instruments, and equipment and their uses.
- Ability to maintain a strict aseptic environment.
- Ability to maintain on-call rotation.
- Able to function as a member of a specialty surgery team.
- Ability to precept students and new employees.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Here Is What You Will Need:
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program and Surgical Technologist Certification and four (4) or more years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
- OR, High School diploma (or equivalent from an accredited program) or higher and six (6) or more years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date.
