Position is located at Buffalo National River Fire and Aviation Management (FAM) Division.
Incumbent serves as a Type 1 or Type 2 Wildland Fire Module Lead Crewmember, serving as lead to 5-10 employees; and requires strategic and tactical operations skills, technological skills, and basic planning skills.
This is a Career-Seasonal position.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
For the GS-06 level: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service which includes the following: Performing and directing others in starting pump engine, priming pump, adjusting engine speed and pump valves, laying hose appropriate nozzles and nozzle adjustment in effective use of water and foam application; Performing prescribed fire operations including preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding, and mop up; Evaluating initial fire situations, determining rate of spread, potential hazards to property and other improvements; Ensure the engine and fire equipment has been kept in full state of readiness for emergency dispatch.
Selective Factors:
The applicant must have possessed all the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position:
- Successfully completed the Primary NWCG Core Requirement of Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1)
- Successfully completed one of the following Primary NWCG Core Requirements of Fire effects monitor (FEMO), or helicopter crewmember (HECM) or helicopter long line/remote hookup specialist (HELR)
-AND-
- Successfully completed the NWCG training of Intermediate Fire Behavior (S-290)
-AND-
- Primary firefighter positions include the following age requirements:
- Under age 37 -OR-
- Less than age 37 after subtracting the months of Permanent Federal Service worked in a primary or secondary firefighter/law enforcement position -OR-
- A veteran preference eligible, older than age 37 and is requesting a waiver to the maximum age requirement.
WORK CAPACITY TEST (WCT) for Wildland Firefighters: This position participates in wildland firefighting activities. Based on the type of work performed, TAKING and PASSING the WCT at the ARDUOUS level is a "condition of employment." The Arduous fitness (Pack) test requires completing a three (3) mile hike within forty-five (45) minutes, while carrying a forty-five (45) pound pack. You are strongly encouraged to consult with your physician and begin training immediately if applying for this position.
