The Opportunity
Are you an experienced clinical leader with strong perioperative services experience looking for an opportunity to drive operational and strategic priorities with a high performing team?
We are seeking a highly motivated Nurse Unit Manager to join our Surgical Services team at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney. This role is a full time Monday to Friday role. The role is pivotal in the strategic management of clinical staff, financial and material resources for the perioperative environment.
To be successful in this role you will be equipped with a strong clinical leadership skillset with previous experience as a NUM in a perioperative setting. You will bring passion to the role where you will lead and inspire a team of clinical professionals and act as mentor while concurrently managing the resources, needs of the unit and relationships with VMO’s and their practices. The successful applicant will report to the Assistant Director of Clinical Services – Surgical Services.
Description of Unit
- A 10 theatre complex with a hybrid theatre that completes around 10,000 procedures per year incorporating specialties such as cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, complex ENT, orthopaedics, vascular, robotic surgery and general surgery. No paediatrics and obstetrics are undertaken at SVPHS.
- The role works in collaboration with the Anaes/PACU NUM, the second theatre department on Level 3, SSD, DOSA & wards/ICU to plan and provide the most optimal surgical services to our patients and VMO’s
About You
- Five or more years’ varied and progressive perioperative nursing management experience with an increasing level of administrative responsibility and authority;
- Strong organisational and customer service skills;
- Demonstrated understanding of clinical risk management and clinical quality principles and their application to the health sector and patient safety;
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills with previous experience in developing high quality business plans, presentations and strategic correspondence;
- Have the ability to understand and monitor performance and compliance with agreed key performance indicators;
- High level computer literacy with experience of Microsoft Office products and electronic clinical and administrative applications used by health services;
- Ability to manage complex situations involving patients, medical practitioners or others in a professional manner and determine an appropriate course of action.
Requirements
- AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse;
- Previous experience in a similar nursing manager role;
- Ability to undertake on call responsibilities;
- Criminal record and/or child protection checks will be conducted and will form part of the selection criteria for this role.
Desirable
- Post Grad tertiary qualifications – management, MBA or similar.

- In accordance with the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Nurses’ Enterprise Agreement 2019 Grade: NUM 3 + salary packaging + superannuation
