Celilo Cancer Center at Adventist Health is seeking a per diem Registered Nurse (RN) for our Medical Oncology team. In this role, you will provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to oncology patients, administering treatments, educating families, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Qualified candidates will have a current Oregon RN license, preferably with oncology experience, and certifications in BLS and ACLS. Job Summary:
Delivers coordinated nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients in an oncology department according to established standards of care and the nursing process. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff, and coordinates care with other disciplines while utilizing critical thinking, professional and supervisory discretion, and independent judgment.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred
- Oncology nurse experience in a Medical Oncology Ambulatory department: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS): Required within 6 months of hire
- Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course Certification: Required within 12 months of hire
- Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC): Preferred
Essential Functions:
- Conducts patient assessment of physical and emotional status, health history and knowledge of their disease and treatment. Monitors and records vitals, pain assessment, symptom assessment and lab results. Utilizes Oncology Nurse Society (ONS) guidelines in documentation of oncology patient care.
- Collects relevant data pertinent to the patient's health or situation. Analyzes the assessment data in determining diagnosis and care issues. Develops a plan that prescribes interventions to attain outcomes. Implements the plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Evaluates progress toward attaining outcomes.
- Administers treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, intravesical instillation, fluid and electrolyte replacement and other oncology treatments, such as therapeutic phlebotomy prescribed by the oncologist.
- Provides education on symptom management and coping strategies, such as how to address nausea, fatigue and loss of appetite. Consults with patients, families and other care providers to establish goals and strategies for care coordination.
- Communicates with all patient care providers to help develop a treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs. Provides education to patients, families and significant others and acts as an information resource for students and the public.
