Staff Nurse (RN)- Perioperative (OR) Oncology New Grad Nurse Residency Program- The James

The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers unique opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to successfully transition from student to professional through a Full-Time, structured, year-long paid orientation to the field of Oncology Nursing. The James is one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers and is the home to pioneering cancer research, prevention, and treatment in the progressive atmosphere of a dynamic university hospital setting.
The Nursing Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Medical Center through hands-on clinical experience, in-depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development. Each resident will be provided with support from a Nurse Residency Program Educator who has advanced Nursing education and experience in transitioning new nurses from students to professionals and in the clinical specialty areas.
The Staff Nurse functions as a member of a team of care providers cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achieving positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, prescribing, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating the nursing care of patients. The Staff Nurse prioritizes patient care needs and provides leadership to, and development of, the patient care team.
This is for the 2025 Perioperative (OR) New Graduate Nurse Residency Program
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduate from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) accredited nursing program required.
- Current licensure or interim permit in the practice of registered nursing from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing required.
- Previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
