Job Details:
Mercer University is searching for a Director of Development for the College of Pharmacy. Based on Mercer's Atlanta campus, the purpose of this position is to coordinate fundraising and related events and activities in an effort to foster a continuing relationship between the College of Pharmacy and its alumni/friends.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the job are to encourage alumni, friends, foundations, and corporations to provide support to the College and University through their time, service, and monetary gifts. Wise and careful stewardship of gifts, along with the donor relationships developed, will be paramount. Specifically, this position is responsible for ensuring the College’s annual fund goal is met each fiscal year, the College’s campaign goals are met, and the College’s major fundraising events are planned and orchestrated successfully.
While reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for University Advancement, the Director of Development for the College of Pharmacy (DOD/COP) will maintain direct communication with and support the efforts and initiatives of the pharmacy dean as they relate to advancement efforts. Further, working in concert with the College’s alumni relations and communications/marketing staff members, this position will coordinate advancement efforts as a team, taking direction from the Dean of COP, who will provide direction to the College’s alumni relations and communications/marketing team. While serving as a member of the overall University Advancement staff, the DOD/COP will also be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the university's advancement team in the areas of alumni relations, annual giving, corporate/foundation relations, capital campaign, planned giving, special events and prospect research/records. Coordinated through the central university advancement office, the DOD/COP will participate in senior pharmacy college staff meetings and other special events as requested by the dean and will work directly with the dean and faculty in advancing the College’s fundraising goals/objectives.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required along with two years of experience working with people in non-profit fundraising/advancement activities, or direct sales experience, or business development experience and activities where relationship building is essential or other “related” business experiences. Candidates with a master's degree are highly desirable.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others in order to build relationships.
- Ability to plan and organize meetings and other events in order to successfully engage alumni and friends of the University.
- Ability to write or edit proposals, letters and articles for the purpose of soliciting gifts and providing written information to constituents.
- Basic knowledge of work processing and spreadsheet applications for analysis and preparation of reports and correspondence.
- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends to facilitate cultivation of constituents.
- Ability to multi-task in order to achieve goals in a timely manner.
