Description
This is a full time (0.8-1.0) variable shift Histotechnician position in the Laboratory/Pathology department.
The Histotechnician assigned to the Pathology department is responsible for the preparation of high-quality histology and immunohistochemistry slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by the pathologist, by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Responsible for freezing, cutting and staining tissue submitted for frozen section analysis.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Graduate or Equivalent and a combination of at least 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry (at least 6 credit hours of each) from a regionally accredited college/university; or successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT or HTL program.
- One year Laboratory experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in a science related field and qualified to complete a NAACLS accredited HT or HTL program.
- One year Laboratory experience required.
Preferred Work Experience:
- One year full time experience in a Histology Laboratory.
Required Skills:
- Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation method, and to evaluate suitability of slides and stains produced.
- Ability to work on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment, and technical skills.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals.
- High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations.
