Title: Production Engineer (Technical Customer Support)
Locations: San Diego, CA
Duration: Long Term
Job Summary: The expectation for these individuals would be nominally 8:00am to 5:00pm, but to support the production team, 7:00am to 4:00pm might work better.
Responsibilities:
- Support operations with the assembly, test, certification, and shipment of optical, resistivity, and thin-film thickness measurement systems.
- Address in-process issues with concise troubleshooting of Optical, Mechanical, and Electrical assemblies.
- Monitor 1st pass yield rate and work closely with the Manufacturing Engineers to improve processes and reduce cycle times.
- Monitor rework and scrap rates and propose solutions to reduce scrap and improve yield.
- Review failure analysis reports to validate root cause analyses and identify design, procedure, and process solutions to mitigate them.
- Interface between the Technician and the Engineering teams as the 2nd line of support.
- Support the Manufacturing Tool Team in maintaining internal tools and evaluate new tools to improve productivity.
- Identify bottlenecks and define action plans to eliminate blocking issues in production.
- Develop, implement, and maintain methods, operational sequences, and processes that increase efficiency and output while reducing waste and costs.
- Monitor yield and cycle times, establish metrics, and analyze deviations from normal trends.
- Work with the Quality team to report incoming and in-process material quality affecting cycle time and productivity.
- Create, execute, and refine build sequences related to system assembly, integration, calibration, and certification.
- Drive efforts that address product-level issues including supplier quality issues, manufacturing escalations, and characterization or improvement projects.
- Analyze manufacturing data via statistical process control to drive process, specification, and design improvements.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree (required), Master's or advanced degree (desired) in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Manufacturing/Systems Engineering or Physics/Materials Science.
- Understanding of system-level interactions between optics, electronics, and mechanical parts.
- Competency in mechanical and electrical manufacturing processes, tooling and fixture design, and quality systems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability through design of experiments.
- Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated experience in statistical process control (SPC).
- Able to test and qualify mechanical materials and components, optical components, electronics, and modules.
- Able to communicate effectively with peers, interdisciplinary engineering groups, customers, and suppliers.
- Self-driven individual with keen technical ability and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Solid modeling, structural analysis, Finite Elements Analysis (FEA), and SolidWorks experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with manufacturing control systems (ERP, PLM, etc.).
- Expertise in MS Software Packages: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) protocols and training.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 1+ years professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of production documentation.
- Experience developing and implementing Quality, SPC, and Safety systems.
- Experience in the development of tooling and fixturing.
- Experience with tracking production rework and scrap.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour
