Program Description:
Backcountry Wellness is an eating disorder treatment program founded with the mission of bridging comprehensive recovery with the demands of real life. Our treatment philosophy embraces compassion and understanding, safety and nurturing, and a focus on family involvement to equip our patients with the tools to make lasting changes within their lives. Backcountry Wellness provides immersive programming for children and adolescents who live with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake, Orthorexia, and Other Specific Feeding and Eating Disorders (OSFED).
Job Summary:
The Lead Therapist acts as the primary point of contact for the Director of Clinical Services regarding all matters within the Residential Program. The Lead Therapist sets a positive tone within their program and promotes collaboration and camaraderie amongst their colleagues while ensuring adherence to all protocols and policies.
The Lead Therapist is an experienced licensed clinician (Psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, LMSW, etc.) and guides clients through the treatment process, supporting them in overcoming the challenges that arise on the road to recovery. Lead Therapists build meaningful therapeutic relationships with their clients which serve as the foundation for the recovery process. A strong Lead Therapist facilitates case discussions on their patients and collaborates successfully with the Director of Clinical Services to maximize treatment effectiveness and facilitate successful outcomes.
Essential Job Functions:
Serve as primary point of contact on the ground for Director of Clinical Services and for clinical staff within the program
Play a primary role in clinical decision-making with support from Director of Clinical Services and Executive Clinical Director
Build camaraderie and set the tone culturally to ensure a warm and harmonious treatment environment and positive morale
Promote collaboration among clinical staff and positive interactions within clinical rounds and daily programming
Solve programmatic issues in collaboration with Director of Clinical Services
Ensure staff are conducting core duties properly, such as supervising patient activities, communicating with patients, and professionalism in the clinical environment
Utilize direct/delegated observation and data collection to ensure accountability and attendance and escalate issues to the Director of Clinical Services when necessary
Lead by example and demonstrate proper handling of challenging client situations, convey empathy with patients and parents alike, demonstrate how to generate constructive solutions and maintain an energized, professional, and positive attitude
Support the admissions process and interface with prospective clients and parents when available, including giving tours of the facility in select instances
Engage directly with patients and their parents to ensure comfort and contentment with participation in the program
Support planning of weekend outings for clients
Be available and responsive to staff over email and Zoom
Oversee and aid in process to prepare all staff members for incoming patients on day of admission
Communicate changes in level of care to Director of Admissions and Compliance Manager
Communicate weekly with Admissions and Compliance Manager to confirm insurance updates and changes
Conduct fire drills, emergency protocol, and fill out exceptional event reports
Maintain a clinical caseload of program patients
Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy when applicable
Educate clients on their comprehensive treatment plan and communicate strategies, goals and targets throughout the duration of treatment
Generate a post-discharge maintenance plan for all clients and recommend meal support and/or additional outpatient programs as necessary
Generate and maintain detailed documentation and comprehensive charting throughout the patient’s progress in treatment
Assist the Director of Clinical Services with implementation of protocols and procedures for on-call duties, emergency situations, and scheduling
Attend, take notes for all patients, and present relevant cases in Clinical Rounds in a clear and comprehensible manner and assist with transitions across treatment platforms when necessary
Understanding the therapeutic process, confidentiality laws, and have strong knowledge of professional ethics
Availability to be on-call by phone as part of Saturday/Sunday rotation
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant subject
- Licensed or registered as a clinician in CT or NY (LCSW, LPC, LMSW, LPCA, LMFT, LMFTA, etc.)
- At least one year of experience in a residential or outpatient program for eating disorders preferred
- Must understand the therapeutic process, confidentiality laws, and have strong knowledge of professional ethics
- Ability to demonstrate professional presence, therapeutic resourcefulness, leadership and communication capabilities
- Ability to provide constructive feedback in an appropriate manner to all patients and families
- Ability to work as a team player within an intimate treatment setting
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $77,500.00 - $95,000.00 per year
