The Physical Sciences Division (PSD) has a rich history of advancing and defining new fields of discovery in the physical and mathematical sciences. Our inquiry spans from the edge of the observable universe to human-computer interaction. The division includes academic departments of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geophysical Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, along with interdisciplinary research institutes.
Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean, the Executive Director of Facilities and Space Planning oversees facility operations, equipment inventory, space planning and management, and cylinder gas delivery on behalf of the PSD. This role manages a team responsible for facility development, maintenance, and expansion to support the strategic mission of the PSD.
Responsibilities
- Leads the development of a strategy for the oversight of all PSD facilities.
- Develops a system for overseeing and tracking asset management.
- Works in partnership with the Deputy Dean for Infrastructure to provide strategic guidance.
- Oversees and manages the Facilities Operations Manager and Dock Manager.
- Provides operational and strategic oversight of all PSD facilities on campus.
- Develops and oversees implementation of tools to measure client satisfaction.
- Plans future capital projects and provides reports detailing space costs.
- Manages managers and professional staff, establishing performance goals.
- Executes functional business plans and contributes to the strategic mission.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience supervising professionals in building management and operations.
- Experience managing research laboratories and facilities.
- Project management experience for major renovations or construction.
- Experience with space planning and oversight.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience with laboratory safety and chemical hygiene planning.
