Principal Consultant, Corporate Sustainability (Principal Level)
ERM is seeking a motivated and dynamic Principal Consultant, Corporate Sustainability to join North America’s growing Corporate Sustainability Advisory service area. The Principal Consultant will primarily focus on leading client engagements, delivery of high-quality client work, and growing the business.
Consultants in the Corporate Sustainability Advisory team work on a wide range of strategic and operational projects, including materiality assessments, developing sustainability/ESG strategy and goals, writing sustainability/ESG reports, and responding to ESG ratings and rankings. The team also works closely with colleagues in the Climate and Transaction practices on projects such as ESG diligence, GHG inventories, and climate risk assessments.
The ideal candidate will have some experience and subject matter expertise in corporate sustainability/ESG strategy, reporting and disclosure, and project management; she/he will have a proven record of helping clients design sustainability/ESG strategies, deliver sustainability/ESG reporting, and/or realize strategy implementation programs. The successful candidate will be able to work with and provide direction to a first-class delivery team.

Position:
Key duties will be to lead ESG strategy and disclosure projects, contribute significantly to business development in our Corporate Sustainability Advisory service area, and develop support staff to enable ERM to make a significant and measurable change in moving companies toward sustainable business models.
Responsibilities:
Client and Project Delivery
- Support the development and delivery of projects related to our core service areas of Sustainability Advisory. Responsible for completing projects in line with quality, time, and budget constraints. Use proven methodologies for assessing materiality and driving robust reporting (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) and a strategic framework to respond to investor surveys (e.g., CDP, DJSI, MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS).
- Deliver multiple simultaneous client engagements of varying size, scope, and complexity.
- Build strong and trusted relationships with clients and coworkers.
- Distills complexity from detail to effectively coach colleagues to deliver high-quality outputs.
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills, excellent writing and presentation skills, and a mastery of PowerPoint.
- Demonstrates strong project management skills and oversight through the project lifecycle, including scoping, budget and delivery, teamwork, and organization.
The successful candidate will be accountable for meeting personal billability at a budgeted rate, personal sales contribution targets, and other relevant targets.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Manage and mentor junior consultants assigned to your projects/team, with a supportive and positive approach that fosters employee satisfaction as well as high-quality deliverables.
- Proactively engage and network with other ERM staff regionally and globally, for knowledge sharing, market monitoring, and business development coordination.
- Acts as advisor and supports projects in North America and beyond as needed.
- Identifies, evaluates, cultivates, and manages partnerships and relationships with clients’ senior leaders, functional heads, and key opinion leaders.
- Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, research organizations, and opinion leaders.
Business Development
- Significant focus on leading business development activities and sales of services of Corporate Sustainability Advisory.
- Support Partners and account teams in developing commercial strategies to pursue and win new business opportunities.
- Ability and willingness to listen to clients to truly understand their needs and then co-develop value-driven solutions to address identified needs.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of prior experience in an advisory position with responsibilities for client delivery and/or business development.
- Bachelors or Graduate Degree in relevant field in addition to experience required above.
- Proven track record in building strong and trusted relationships with clients and partners.
- Proven track record in developing commercial strategies and converting opportunities into wins.
- Experience in working with clients across sectors including power, oil and gas, mining/metals, chemical, and manufacturing is a plus.
- Structured and effective communicator who can shape and deliver messages to executives and facilitate effective client engagements.
- Experience with line management and/or contributing to the professional development of other teammates.

- Alternate locations may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
For the Principal Consultant, Corporate Sustainability (Principal Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $114,471 – $149,625 (USD). An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
