The President is responsible for the functioning of two clinically successful and financially viable critical access hospitals from the development of a philosophy and direction to the attainment of specific objectives. Responsibilities include hospital-wide strategic planning and goal development, physician employment models and joint ventures, leading physician recruitment efforts, building strong physician relationships, and implementing physician development plans. The President will work collaboratively to improve operational management and performance, focusing on growth strategy, patient safety, employee and physician engagement, market growth, and financial performance. The President will initiate, foster, and sustain external relations/activities that establish trust, respect, and support for the hospital’s patients. As an active leader in the community, the President will sustain and continue to build the hospital’s reputation for excellence while fulfilling the organization’s mission.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Bachelor’s in Business or Health Administration
EXPERIENCE:
- Five – ten years’ experience in hospital and healthcare administration with a particular focus on financial and operational matters.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Master’s degree or Postgraduate degree.

- In collaboration with the Board and other management, the President is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the daily operations of the organization.
- Establish current and long-range goals, objectives, plans, and policies.
- Dispense advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out major plans, standards, and procedures, consistent with established policies and appropriate approvals.
- In conjunction with management members, ensure that operations are executed in accordance with the organization’s policies.
- Provide oversight of the organization’s financial structure to ensure the soundness of the System’s financial future.
- Review operating results of the organization, compare them to established objectives, and take steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.
- Establish and promote effective communications between the System and all stakeholders.
- Represent the organization with major customers, community members, legislators, stakeholders, and the public.
- Develop effective medical staff relationships throughout the Hospital.
- Establish appropriate patient satisfaction, quality, and financial/cost performance improvement objectives.
- Recruit and develop effective members of leadership and ensure the development of an effective and cohesive leadership team.
- Communicate effectively with the Board of Directors, leadership, physicians, and staff, serving as an advocate for the Hospital and WV University Health System.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
- Ability to establish effective relationships with members of the Hospital’s medical staff.
- Ability to develop an effective and cohesive leadership team.
- Ability to identify emerging trends and develop appropriate plans to address issues.
- Ability to effectively represent the Hospital and WVU at the state and federal level in matters relating to health policy.
