Position Description:
STEM School Highlands Ranch is a cutting-edge K-12 public charter school in Colorado, dedicated to fostering innovation and excellence in education. We are looking for a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and ensure sustainable growth in alignment with our mission to prepare students for the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for the school.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including education funding and reporting requirements.
- Manage cash flow, investment strategies, and risk management to support the long-term sustainability of the school.
- Collaborate with school leadership to develop financial strategies that align with the school’s mission and growth objectives.
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Directors and provide strategic guidance to the leadership team.
- Oversee the finance team, ensuring accurate financial tracking, grant management, and reporting.
- Prepare annual operating and capital budgets for board approval and provide monthly financial statements and narratives to the board and finance committees.
- Manage the approved budget and prepare rolling forecasts for changes in events.
- Supervise business office staff and ensure the development of proper internal controls over accounting tasks.
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and tax returns.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CIO and other members of the shared services team.
- Monitor business performance, cash flow, and propose corrective actions to improve the school’s financial health.
- Maintain strong working relationships with district authorizer, school board, shared services, and school administration.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a senior financial leadership role, ideally within the education sector.
- Strong understanding of school finance, public funding, and nonprofit financial management.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with a track record of guiding teams and supporting executive decisions.
- Relevant degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting (5-50 pounds).
- Ability to stand/walk for 90 minutes and run short distances.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and sitting.
Work Schedule:
Full-time, Monday to Friday, in-person.
This position will be open until filled, but will not be open past: November 31, 2024.
The pay range for this role is: 125,000 - 175,000 USD per year (Main).
