We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join the Finance Operations team.
Due to the nature of this role, we will only consider candidates who currently reside in Colorado or those with firm plans to relocate to Colorado.
This job offers a primarily remote work structure with occasional on-site work required as dictated by the needs of the job.
The Sr. Accountant will serve as a senior member of the Finance Operations team and is responsible for approving journals, reconciling accounts, creating reports, providing analysis, approving vendor setup, and training staff on finance systems as needed. In addition, the individual in this role will provide oversight of the expense reimbursement and company card processing software. The Sr. Accountant is also responsible for the annual 1099 reporting, which requires up to date knowledge of current IRS Regulations related to 1099s and accounts payable.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Approve General Ledger, A/P and A/R journal entries.
- Administer various finance systems which includes managing access, maintaining workflows, auditing transactions, training, troubleshooting and correspondence.
- Oversee the procurement card program.
- Calculate monthly incentive payments and reserve transfers for consulting activity, including all related communication to stakeholders.
- Create and distribute regular reporting around consulting activities to all interested parties.
- Reconcile and approve refunds from the Revenue Operations department.
- Manage annual 1099 tax reporting.
- Establish and maintain business licenses as needed for out of state contracts.
- Prepare and review taxable expense file for submission to the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM).
- Assist with the quarterly financial accruals and year-end audit.
- Provide analysis and audits of payable activity for review.
- Prepare annual budget submission for assigned accounts and monitor variances over the year.
- Review pertinent A/P and A/R reports and alert management of any concerns.
- Perform G/L account reconciliations.
- Review and coordinate approval, payment and tax reporting of promissory notes.
- Assist Accounts Payable team in resolving issues and communicating with vendors and leadership at both CU Medicine and CU SOM Departments.
- Provide training as required on finance systems/applications, processes and policies.
- Aid in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures in accounts payable, purchasing and medical legal/consulting.
- Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and a minimum of 5 years progressive accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. Must have a high-level proficiency in MS Excel. Experience with finance systems/applications such as D365, Concur &/or COR360 is helpful. Must demonstrate solid interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with a variety of audiences. Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and follow through is essential to success. Must have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to interpret and apply IRS regulations to real-world situations is critical. 1099 experience is a plus. The ideal candidate will possess an analytical mindset with sound decision-making skills.
