POSITION OVERVIEW:
Develop, direct, and manage ILR’s state legal reform advocacy program, including the development of multifaceted state-based campaigns to impact policymakers and liability-related legislation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify opportunities and develop strategic plans for ILR to positively impact the legal climates in multiple problem states and opportunity jurisdictions.
- Prepare strategic plans for tort reform campaigns in the states and plan various tactics, including grassroots engagement, government relations, and coalition building.
- Promote ILR’s message and represent ILR to allied groups and interested parties through a variety of forums, including panels, speeches, and meetings.
- Foster and improve relationships with state elected officials.
- Interact regularly with the ILR Board of Directors and membership regarding legal reform strategy, legislative solutions, and state-specific developments.
- Identify, retain, and manage vendors in jurisdictions selected for legislative activity.
- Direct the ILR state team to align with strategy and goals.
- Liaise with the Chamber Federation and be a thought leader among third-party legal reform-allied organizations.
- Work closely with senior ILR leadership to devise strategy, including the managing director and the vice president of strategy.
- Lobby state policymakers and legislative bodies on ILR issues.
REQUIREMENTS:
- J.D. and 8+ years’ experience in state advocacy and government affairs.
- Able to navigate complex and changing political and issue environments.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to understand and analyze a range of legal issues.
- Proven program management skills and the ability to manage several priorities and projects simultaneously with little oversight.
- Willingness to travel to target states as needed.
- Law firm or in-house counsel experience preferred.
The salary range for this position is $244,636.00 to $305,796.00. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant’s qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Our full-time employees are eligible for benefits including healthcare, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.
