Position Summary
We are currently looking for a junior to mid-level associate with Commercial Litigation experience to join the Washington, D.C. office's growing Federal Practice group.
White & Case handles a broad mix of litigation, investigation, employment, cybersecurity, mergers and acquisition, and counseling work for its federal government contracting and grant award recipient clients.
We are seeking an associate who is experienced with all facets of supporting a commercial litigation practice including researching and advising on such regulations as the Federal Acquisition Regulations; litigation supporting including discovery, brief-writing, and document review; and analyzing contract and grant documents as part of complex, multi-jurisdictional corporate transactions. Key attributes for candidates include a proactive attitude, a collaborative mindset, responsiveness, communication skills, excellent judgment, and a desire to continue expanding skills.
Our team litigates before all tribunals and is known for success in high-profile, high-stakes, and precedent-setting cases. The practice assists clients across all industries, but has a particular emphasis on matters relating to National Security, Defense, Healthcare and Energy sectors.

Our Practice Area
We represent clients in all stages of domestic and international litigation, before trial, appellate, regulatory and alternative dispute resolution tribunals across the world. Renowned for the global breadth and local depth of our experience, we are trusted advisors to the world's leading financial institutions, largest corporations, sovereign governments, executives and directors. As well as guiding clients through their most complex and significant litigation challenges, we also help them steer clear of disputes, by developing and implementing risk management and compliance measures.
Duties and Accountabilities
As an associate joining our practice, you will be given responsibility for a wide range of important tasks for our firm's clients. Responsibilities will vary, but generally include the following:
- Participate in developing strategy for matters ranging from complex commercial matters, regulatory questions for contractors and grant recipients (e.g., FAR, DFARs, and SBA), business-tort litigation, internal corporate investigations, corporate governance matters, and employment matters.
- Draft briefs, memoranda, correspondence, examination outlines, and other documents for matters.
- Conduct legal research.
- Participate in and conduct witness interviews, client meetings, and negotiations.
- Analyze evidence to develop facts and strategy.
- Communicate with clients (via telephone, email and in-person).
- Provide direct assistance to partners and senior lawyers on matters arising in the course of day-to-day provision of legal services to our clients.
Qualifications
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree (LLM or foreign equivalent) from an accredited law school required
- Minimum of two years of experience in federal district court litigation
- Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience as a judicial clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit or the Court of Federal Claims and to those with academic training in government contracts law.
