What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Director – Product Engineering?
We are seeking a Director of Product Engineering with the AI group to spearhead the development and execution of our AI and machine learning product strategies. This is a hands-on leadership role with a focus on building and improving upon our GenAI capabilities and identifying the next generation of strategies to improve the organization moving forward. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, technical expertise, and inclusive leadership to create impactful AI products.
- Lead and grow a team of talented machine learning engineers and data scientists, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster professional growth. For our most complex challenges, you will dive into the tech to work through solutioning alongside your team.
- Drive the design, development, and optimization of LLM-powered solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Introduce and enforce best engineering practices, uphold engineering quality standards, and streamline machine learning development and deployment processes.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders to create effective roadmaps, manage expectations, and ensure smooth execution of projects.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning, NLP, and related fields, and evaluate emerging technologies for potential integration into our platform.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
- Extensive experience in product management, particularly in AI and machine learning.
- Proven track record of leading and growing teams of machine learning engineers and data scientists.
- Hands-on experience with AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP).
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in AI, such as Python, R, or Java.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide technical teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Experience in strategic planning and execution, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to tackle complex technical challenges.
- Adaptability to stay current with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning.
- Experience in developing and optimizing scalable, reliable, and high-performance AI solutions.

Franklin Templeton offers employees a competitive and valuable range of total rewards—monetary and non-monetary—designed to support the whole person and to recognize their time, talents, and results. Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. We expect the salary for this position to range between $180,000.00 - $210,000.00.
