General Description:
The Watch Officer will staff a desk at the Police Command Center, providing 24/7 coverage. This critical role involves monitoring events that could impact the agency complex, notifying agency leadership, and coordinating the response of resources as needed.
Major Duties:
- Event Monitoring: Monitor police radio communications, media reports, and other sources to gather information that may impact the operations and security of the agency and its AOR.
- Impact Assessment: Evaluate potential impacts such as road and door closures, or other operational restrictions.
- Special Events Monitoring: Keep track of the status of special events.
- Liaison Responsibilities: Serve as a key liaison with other government agencies to ensure coordinated responses.
- Incident Coordination: Coordinate the agency's response to incidents affecting operations and/or security within the AOR.
- Process Improvement: Review and recommend improvements to the Command Center checklist and other operational materials.
- SOP Development: Assist in the creation and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Command Center operations.
- Reporting: Provide daily shift reports detailing significant events and actions taken.
- Leadership Notification: Ensure leadership is promptly informed of events impacting the security and operations of the AOR.
- Incident Reporting: Regularly complete incident reports and required notifications via multiple methods, including email and WebEOC.
Professional Qualifications/Skills:
- Security Clearance: Must possess and maintain a current Top Secret personnel security clearance.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5), preferably seven (7), years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Law enforcement or security
- Emergency management
- Operations within law enforcement, security, or emergency management centers.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to work effectively in a high-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities, demonstrating flexibility in managing multiple tasks and frequent interruptions.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with discretion and tact. Ability to adapt communication style to effectively engage with diverse audiences.
- Writing Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents, including reports, policies, and procedures.
Work Schedule:
This position requires the ability to work in a 24/7 environment, with shifts covering nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
