SUMMARY: The Professional Responsibility Attorney is a member of the Professional Responsibility Committee and serves with a team of lawyers as in-house legal counsel to the Firm. The Committee’s work centers on legal ethics, professional responsibility and loss prevention.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Advising Firm attorneys on conflict issues and facilitating the resolution of conflicts of interests.
- Counseling Firm attorneys on a wide variety of ethical and professional issues.
- Reviewing and approving new Firm business to ensure accuracy and adherence with Firm policies and procedures.
- Performing due diligence for all legal and lateral hires.
- Conducting ethics orientation for lateral and new attorneys.
- Reviewing and developing policies and processes relating to legal ethics and loss prevention.
- Providing training on legal ethics, loss prevention and compliance with Firm policies.
- Monitoring ethics opinions, the Rules of Professional Conduct and laws and other regulations governing the Firm and its lawyers.
- Reviewing the Firm’s marketing materials for ethics compliance.
- Drafting and reviewing conflicts waivers, engagement letters and other client communications and documents to ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards.
- Reviewing, and providing advice on, outside counsel guidelines.
- Advising lawyers on issues relating to bar admission, unauthorized practice of law, state registration requirements and continuing legal education compliance.
- Researching and analyzing legal malpractice issues and potential claims.
- Serving as a liaison with the Firm’s professional liability carrier.
- Working with the Firm’s General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel on legal matters for the Firm.
- Assisting with all other projects and special requests as needed.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) and active license to practice law in the United States required.
- Four years’ experience with strong knowledge of legal ethics and loss prevention.
- Knowledge of Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; must be able to articulate issues accurately, clearly and succinctly.
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities needed to address complex questions and issues.
- Must have strong organizational skills and be extremely detail-oriented; issue-tracking, follow-up and resolution skills are essential.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, deadline-driven environment and respond appropriately to shifting priorities.
- Must maintain confidentiality and use discretion with sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
