The Department of Administrative Services seeks a Director of Facilities who will develop and implement a strategic plan for the maintenance, repair and enhancement of all campus facilities and grounds. The Director of Facilities will oversee all facilities-related activities, ensuring that physical plant operations, including all buildings, grounds and utilities are in appropriate working order to provide a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for students, faculty and staff. The Director of Facilities will provide a proactive approach to problem-solving, demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and has the ability to oversee multiple projects.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Facilities department ensuring timely completion of tasks and the assignment of work-order requests across three campuses and university-owned buildings.
- Manage the engineering, maintenance, repair and renovation of buildings, grounds and equipment to maintain optimal condition and functionality.
- Lead and mentor Facilities department staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability and completing quality work.
- Provide oversight of housekeeping personnel and vendor.
- Prepare and manage annual facilities budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
- Oversee all facilities-related projects from initiation to completion, including the evaluation of bids submitted by vendors and collaboration with architects, engineers and contractors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Coordinate purchase of necessary supplies and equipment, including the periodic review of vendor contracts and costs.
- Focus on energy saving projects.
- Work with utility companies, water, sewer authorities as necessary.
- Ensure all university facilities meet and comply with all safety and environmental standards, permit, license, and code compliance.
- Contribute to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment.
Required:
- Minimum of a High school degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of proven experience as facilities manager or relevant position.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in facilities management or related field.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Well-versed in technical/engineering operations and facilities management best practices.
- Knowledge of local and state building codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Preferred:
- College degree in Facilities Management or Engineering, energy management or closely related field.
- Membership in a professional facilities organization.
- Prior facilities experience in a higher education setting.
