POSITION SUMMARY:
The AVP of Development is responsible for leading and managing systemwide major gifts ($10,000+ gifts), principal gifts ($1M+ gifts) and central services teams. Direct reports to the AVP include three Directors-Major Gifts, Director of Central Services, Major Gift/Campaign Manager, Director of Principal Gifts, and the Director of Annual Giving. All systemwide capital, major gift and annual fundraising campaigns will fall within this senior leader’s portfolio in addition to the vision and implementation of the clinician engagement program. Central Service efforts including but not limited to fundraising and stewardship events, donor relations, corporate engagement and departmental communications fall within this portfolio. This position reports to the Vice President and Chief Development Officer.
Essential Functions:
MAJOR GIFT FUNDRAISING: With a strong metrics focus, this position manages the movement of prospects through the stages of the philanthropic process (moves management).
- Requires the ability to be creative, innovative, flexible and resourceful in all aspects of prospect and donor engagement.
- Sets and reviews metrics for all fundraising teams including number of solicitations (25-30 gifts annually) closing five, six, and seven figure gifts for MGOs also expected to make 150-200 donor and prospect visits annually.
- Works in Raiser's Edge to capture prospect and donor information and activity. Works to build and maintains a fluid pipeline of 150 major gift prospects per MGO.
CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT: Provides oversight of all systemwide campaigns.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, update and analyze fundraising metrics on a monthly basis.
- Update campaign timelines as needed and provide campaign direction and guidance. Reviews and analyzes campaign metrics, gift tables, and timeline, providing feedback and guidance.
- Works with colleagues to collaborate on solicitations to maximize campaign support.
CLINICAL ENGAGEMENT: Leads direct fundraising team to engage physicians and other clinicians to identify grateful patients and families, qualify them for capacity and interest, and move them into the major gift pipeline.
- Facilitates long-term philanthropic relationships with grateful patients and families, including clinicians in the appropriate steps.
- Builds strong working relationships with clinicians.
- Manages systemwide clinical service line assignments along with capital campaigns and major gift initiatives.
- Serves as clinician engagement liaison for all affiliate entities; this includes representing Development in meetings with clinicians and administrative leadership as needed.
- Creates the strategy for system-wide clinician engagement in philanthropy education and delivers presentations to small and large groups.
- Oversees clinician communication strategies including the physician champion newsletter.
- Reviews KPIs with the team on a monthly basis to fine-tune and improve the program.
TEAM LEADERSHIP: As the leader of system principal, major and annual giving programs, this position will have direct responsibility for the vision and success of the team.
- Manages systemwide principal, major Gifts and annual giving programs – meeting biweekly to review prospect strategy, clinicians, metrics, and clearing action plans across affiliated programs.
- Sets the strategy for the clinician engagement program system-wide and works with the team to execute clinician engagement programming.
- Manages systemwide fundraising and stewardship events.
- Analyzes current program and develops strategies for maximizing ROI.
- Identifies fundraising opportunities and develops cases for support.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Basic professional knowledge; equivalent to a Bachelor's degree; working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized field.
- 7+ years required; prefer 10+ years managing a successful Fundraising team.
- Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) cert preferred.
