ROLE OVERVIEW
Pivot Energy, an ESG-focused IPP for distributed renewable energy, is looking for an energetic senior leader to develop and lead our asset management team. Tasked with overseeing the administration of complex portfolios of distributed solar and storage assets, this role is critical in maximizing the financial performance of Pivot Energy’s operating fleet and ensuring compliance of the assets across all commercial models and geographies in operations.
The role will directly oversee all aspects of project and portfolio reporting and portfolio financial matters – profit & loss statements, as well as preparing and managing annual budgets. You will play a critical leadership role in the coordination of financial, commercial, compliance management, and administrative tasks related to operating fleet management. To successfully achieve optimal portfolio performance, this role will be tasked with building / automating scalable processes and interactions with other core teams within Pivot Energy, as well as developing internal KPIs across financial, operational, and impact-related goals.
The VP, Asset Management will collaborate with multiple teams across the company, including Finance, Accounting, Legal, Operations & Maintenance, Revenue Operations, and Business Operations. The role initially requires expanding on our core asset management capabilities, and in the long run, building out a team that will scale rapidly with Pivot Energy’s rapidly growing fleet of operating assets.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- General
- Oversee a portfolio of complex renewable energy assets using leading performance indicators, focused on real-time data management, and creative strategies for maximizing revenue and value creation.
- Lead the development and implementation of scalable team processes to manage more than 100 new operating assets annually.
- Manage, develop, and retain a high-performing team adept at cross-functional work, possessing a deep understanding of distributed renewable energy assets and markets, and skilled at presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of software systems to drive the overall scaling of the department and Pivot’s operating fleet of assets.
- Financial
- Assume responsibility for portfolio Profit & Loss (P&L) reporting and management, including preparing annual budgets, and reporting and explaining variance to budget.
- Support the development of a detailed framework and plans for assets to maximize revenue and minimize risk; bring dedicated leadership to these plans and strategic recommendations, while being open to innovative thinking.
- Establish a robust process for proactively measuring each asset and portfolio’s financial performance after each reporting period, and support responding to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders on financial reporting.
- Support the development of operating assumptions for the formation of new project portfolios by providing insights and recommendations for future underwriting based on learnings from operating portfolios.
- Project Administration, Contract & Regulatory Compliance
- Interface with origination, development, construction management, and finance to ensure a smooth and timely transition of projects into commercial operations.
- Support the resolution or mitigation of any major asset outages, as appropriate in conjunction with Pivot’s O&M team.
- Oversee a robust contract management process, ensuring all operational assets remain in compliance with their contract obligations.
- Complete all compliance obligations in a timely manner related to regulatory agencies (including EIA, CEC, FERC, and others).
- Contribute to detailed and timely communications about asset outages and the necessary cascading communications to contract partners and important stakeholders.
- Prepare recurring reports on project performance for internal and external stakeholders and support inquiries from internal and external parties on reports.
- Maintain data integrity and accuracy within Pivot Energy’s project information system.
- Stakeholder Management & Leadership
- Foster and model internal collaboration by building day-to-day relationships with internal stakeholders to drive cross-functional optimization of owned portfolios.
- Contribute to cross-functional process development by establishing or clarifying critical decision rights between teams.
- Support engagement with Pivot’s Executive team, financing partners, and Board through thorough and reliable reporting, detailed knowledge of portfolio operations, and portfolio management strategies and results.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES- 5-7 years of renewable energy asset management experience, with preference given to those with structured finance exposure, community solar, or other relevant on-the-job experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, highly positive outlook, flexible, team building experience.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to develop relationships within the organization across functional teams.
- Solid knowledge of distributed renewable energy assets, markets, and unique revenue streams (such as community solar).
- Proven track record managing sizeable portfolios of operating renewable energy projects.
- Experience supporting the implementation of software systems for scaling operational processes.
- Knowledge of regulatory bodies (EIA, CEC, FERC) and experience in ensuring timely fulfillment of compliance obligations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present and communicate complex concepts to various stakeholders.
$175,000 - $265,000 a year
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The base salary range for this position is $175,000-$265,000 depending on relevant experience, along with eligibility for the company’s substantial bonus plan, with a target bonus of 35% of annual salary (prorated in the first year based on start date).
