Job Summary
The role leads the Company's tax strategy, guiding a team through federal and state tax matters from assessment and planning to return preparation. It involves designing and implementing tax-saving strategies, managing audits, and evaluating the tax impact of business decisions. The position also supervises internal tax staff and external partners, addresses issues related to federal and state incentives, indirect and premium taxes, foundation compliance, Form 1099 reporting, and fixed asset reporting. Additionally, it includes managing tax processes for mergers, acquisitions, and startups, accurately calculating and reporting tax liabilities, and representing the company within the BCBS system.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and file necessary federal, state, and local income tax returns in a timely manner.
- Represent HCSC and subsidiaries before the IRS and other state regulatory agencies.
- Develop and implement tax saving strategies for HCSC and subsidiaries.
- Accurately calculate and report income tax expense, liabilities, and deferred tax assets and/or liabilities for HCSC and subsidiaries.
- Integrate, develop, and implement all necessary tax and fixed asset processes related to merger, acquisition, or start-up activities.
- Accurately maintain and report HCSC's fixed asset capital base including performance of perpetual physical inventories, tax engineering and cost segregation studies where appropriate.
- Represent HCSC and subsidiaries within the BCBS system and other organizations.
- Develop, train, and mentor staff.
- Comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, Compliance Program policies and other applicable corporate and departmental policies.
- Maintain complete confidentiality of company business.
- Maintain communication with management regarding development within areas of assigned responsibilities and perform special projects as required or requested.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting with a CPA designation or Master Degree in Tax.
- 10 years of tax experience with 8 years of life/non-life insurance tax experience and 5 years proven supervisory experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local income tax law in addition to an understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Leadership ability with sound decision-making talent.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Advanced analytical, organizational, and project management abilities.
- Computer skills to include working knowledge of the Corp Tax and PeopleSoft platforms.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with Alteryx, Oracle Cloud, & Premium Pro.
- Experience with CorpTax.
- Automation tools.
- Tax controversy experience.
*This is a hybrid role, in office 3 days/week.*

Base Pay Range
$115,900.00 - $215,400.00
