The
Senior Product Manager (Risk) will report to the Sr. Director of Product for Core Clearing and will have extensive cross-functional interaction. This Product Management role will focus on building out our Risk Management capabilities for Apex, including new systems and services. You'll have the exceptional opportunity to learn from experts in the industry, from our department heads to some of the founders of our company.
We’re looking for someone who can not only assess market risks and optimize our systems to ensure a high degree of accuracy and uptime within this critical domain but also set and execute a strategic vision for our Risk domain. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in enhancing our capabilities in risk assessment and management, ensuring it aligns with the dynamic needs of our clients and the evolving landscape of financial markets.

Your eagerness to grasp the complexities of equities, options, and option theory is crucial. You enjoy utilizing innovative technologies to understand option greeks analysis, volatility analysis, historical risk exposure, hedging strategies, and risk slides.

What you’ll do all day:- Define the tools and features Apex needs to build. Apex’s edge is its technology products. And as a product manager, you’ll be responsible for defining what products Apex should be building and also determining their outcomes.
- Become an expert: Mastery of your product is essential. You'll engage regularly with subject matter experts and executive leadership within Apex to deepen your knowledge and effectively guide our product strategies. Your role will require a proactive approach to learning, diving deep into the intricacies of our systems and the financial landscape to truly excel.
- Collaborate with your engineering team to drive projects to completion. At Apex, product managers are assigned to a specific engineering team. This fosters good communication and team rhythm. You will work daily with your team to plan projects, groom backlogs, and research emerging requirements.
- Drive technology strategy: As a proactive leader, you will spearhead regular discussions with department leaders, key customers, and members of the executive leadership team to align and refine the product vision. Your role is critical in driving these strategic conversations, where you will not only gather insights but also decisively shape and communicate the vision, ensuring that all stakeholders are on board and clear documentation exists to capture key decisions and outcomes.

Responsibilities:- Define and execute the strategy, vision, and roadmap for our risk management products, focusing on internal tools to monitor and analyze market risks across millions of client accounts.
- Work with cross-functional teams—such as our risk department's leaders, C-suite executives, data scientists, and risk analysts—to develop and document comprehensive product requirements that drive products from conception through to launch.
- Engage with internal stakeholders and clients (Broker Dealers) to understand and address specific risk-related product needs and gaps.
- Utilize quantitative and qualitative business metrics to inform product strategy and foster innovation within the risk management domain.
- Author and maintain key product documentation such as Annual Operating Plans, Product Charters, PR-FAQs, Narratives, and other risk-focused artifacts.
- Research and analyze industry trends to remain ahead in risk management technologies and practices.
- Conduct competitive analysis to benchmark our products and identify areas for strategic improvement in risk monitoring and management.
- Deliver insights and actionable recommendations tailored to stakeholders by aligning deep analysis of market risks with overarching business objectives.
- Ensure the functional and financial success of risk management products.
- Requires occasional travel (15%+ time) to meet with distributed teams and stakeholders in various locations.
Skills You'll Need to Succeed:- 5+ years of Product Management experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in risk management tools or financial risk analysis.
- Technical fluency with the ability to effectively communicate with engineering teams, understand modern technology concepts, and make informed product design decisions alongside technical staff.
- Experience/background in financial markets or a strong interest in learning the securities industry.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical field (CS or engineering degree). Master’s degree in business administration is a plus.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication is a must.
- Strong analytical capabilities and comfort with BI tools, Excel, SQL, and potentially more advanced data analysis tools like Python or R.
- Experience researching, defining and documenting market and product requirements.
- Solid track record managing the full lifecycle of product development, preferably within a SaaS or cloud-based environment.
- A deep understanding of Agile methodologies and a strong preference for incremental and iterative product delivery.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to challenge norms and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
