Senior Principal Engineer, Global Gas
The Senior Principal Engineer, Global Gas promotes the company’s business and related services, to provide clients with guidance in support of the activities of the Global Sustainability team with emphasis on gas projects, including gas carriers, gas liquefaction, and regasification-related projects and systems, to maintain expertise on above subjects and to provide consultative assistance to all divisional offices on related business and policy matters.
What You Will Do:
- Maintain professional and comprehensive knowledge of pertinent marine regulations and issues, as well as upcoming proposed changes.
- Interface at all organizational levels and with ship owners, designers, builders, and flag administrations.
- Provide leadership and technical direction to other less experienced personnel.
- Assignments, when not strictly defined, will require a high degree of initiative to determine the best approach to problem-solving.
- Support internal stakeholders as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on gas-related issues, including gas carriers, floating gas projects, and gas and lower flash point fuel applications.
- Development of training material and protocols for internal education of engineers/surveyors within the scope of applicable gas cargo, production, and lower flash point fuel regulations.
- Develop suggested Rule changes and/or Rule development projects based on new gas cargo and fuel regulations and global initiatives.
- Presentations at ship owners, yards, operators, conferences, and seminars.
- Lead projects and project teams.
- Support ABS activities related to Rule development, identification of research and development needs, and involvement in outside committees and organizations.
- Perform selected engineering reviews and analyses where necessary.
- Develop or assist in the development of qualification statements, proposals, and bids; deliver the presentation of these materials to prospective clients when necessary.
- Need to be familiar with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems.
- Ensure the implementation and operation of the ABS Quality System regarding all works in the assigned jurisdiction.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience: Degree in Engineering; a higher degree is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge and ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, highly complex and unique technical issues to personnel in related technical fields.
- Shipboard experience and/or knowledge of Gas Carriers and Gas Fuel systems and other gas systems as applicable systems.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Ability to identify, analyze, research, and solve complex and unique problems.
- Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
- Previous experience in the direct supervision of professional and office support employees is preferred.
- The ability to work well with others and strong employee relations skills.
- The desire and ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
- Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to a director or VP.
