What will you do in this role?
- Organize, analyze, and interpret large volumes of data.
- Troubleshoot complex accounting and financial issues in the entity’s accounting system of record, identify the root cause of the issues, and provide short-term and long-term solutions.
- Review and evaluate financial reporting and accounting transaction processes, including controls related to financial reporting.
- Apply accounting standards to financial transactions and report to Cotton & Company management and client personnel as appropriate.
- Oversee and review work performed by other staff and interact with Cotton & Company managers and partners.
- Develop and sustain solid relationships with client personnel and identify opportunities to provide additional services.
Specific requirements are as follows:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or in a related field with a minimum of 24 hours in accounting coursework, as well as the 150 hours of total coursework required to obtain a CPA license.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA candidate required, advanced degree highly desired.
- A minimum of four years’ experience performing financial management services for federal entities, focusing on federal financial reporting and/or auditing, or similar experience in public accounting.
- Experience with or knowledge in applying regulations and standards for financial reporting.
- Experience in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements or key line items of financial statements preferred.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access).
- Ability to communicate effectively with groups such as clients, peers, and management.
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. federal security clearance.
