Job Summary:
Matteson School District 162 has an opening for a Director of Facilities Management. The Director of Facilities Management reports directly to the Superintendent or her designee. Compensation is competitive in the South suburbs and is based upon training and experience.

Qualifications:
- Five or more years of successful administrative experience in the facility maintenance field; Journeyman-level experience in the building, maintenance and construction trades.
- Preferred candidates will possess a degree in facilities management, engineering or closely related field.
- Demonstrates a high level of effective leadership skills.
- Experience analyzing problems and developing action plans.
- Positive interpersonal skills to work professionally with staff and establish effective and collaborative relationships with community members and other agencies.
- Excellent technical competencies in areas including technology, mathematics, writing and editing, organization, problem-solving, multitasking, and statistical record keeping.
- Knowledgeable of principles and practices related to the management of maintenance, custodial, warehouse, and landscape activities.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC units, electrical, grounds care, buildings, custodial care, carpentry, playground equipment, and safety.
- Working knowledge of all applicable OSHA, EPA, and Illinois School Code regulations that apply to the Facilities and Maintenance Department of the school district.
- Clearance of ‘FBI Background’ check required.
- Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License and be available on call twenty-four (24) hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Essential Functions:
- Use independent judgment in significant matters when coordinating and planning for inspections, recommending repairs and improvements for the district's facilities and grounds to maintain healthy and safe environments for students, staff, and the community.
- Supervise the alterations of district facilities.
- Represent the district in day-to-day contacts with the Director of Operations and as needed with contractors, architects, and engineers in connection with facility renovations.
- Interface and coordinate activities with local government agencies as pertaining to District 162 facilities and properties.
- Assist in the negotiation and administration of leases of district facilities and facilities used by the school district.
- Plan and direct building services, including custodial, building maintenance, and grounds maintenance.
- Develop and administer the school district's snow removal plan.
- Use independent judgment in significant matters when coordinating emergency procedures affecting building and grounds including cold weather temperature control and snow removal and serve and advise the Superintendent regarding school closure.
- Exercise discretion when making recommendations concerning the appointment, retention, promotion, and assignment of all Facilities Department personnel.
- Develop and administer a preventative maintenance program for HVAC equipment, playground equipment, and other equipment as needed.
- Coordinate and implement a staffing plan for the Facilities Department that includes training and human resource development.
- Develop and administer a vehicle and equipment maintenance/replacement plan.
- Develop and administer a building and grounds use program that makes the district facilities available to area residents and athletic groups.
- Use independent judgment in significant matters when working with principals to coordinate short-term and long-range facility improvement plans.
- Work collaboratively with building administrators and staff to ensure a clean and safe environment for all students and staff.
- Assist Principals in the management and evaluation of the Facility Operation Manager.
- Participate in the negotiation and administration of labor contracts involving the Facilities department staff.
- Conduct regular building inspections for safety, cleaning standards, and procedure compliance, coordinating inspections by insurance companies, fire and police departments, health department, and Regional Office of Education audits.
- Complete District compliance trainings as required.
- Assist in the preparation of the Building and Life Safety Fund budgets in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer.
- Develop and/or coordinate bids, RFPs, RFQs, and other purchasing projects or initiatives specific to the department in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer.
Additional Functions:
- Responsible for the evaluation of maintenance staff, evening custodial supervisor, and office staff.
- Attend Board of Education Meetings as required.
- Responsible for asbestos management plan, district pest management plan, district safety plan, and district loss control in conjunction with the CSBO.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment as directed by the Assistant Superintendent for Business.
Physical Requirements:
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (should be able to lift up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and is generally a hazard-free environment. The individual must be able to move freely to various locations within schools, offices, and other community settings.
